Mostly a Strat so I’ll put it here

So you removed wood from the body, not the neck? Is there an advantage to one approach vs the other? I've always dug the tele neck on a Strat thing since seeing Ian Moore do it in the 90s (long before I started playing electric). Now that I do I may have to try this myself!

I didn't even realize that variations in body size were a thing! And now that I do, I don't think I likes the larger size - just more weight IMHO. Regardless, it doesn't matter - I brought the guitar back to them this morning!

Well, I returned the guitar this morning but I wouldn't say mine is "the best guitar in the world for me". I've been thinking about what I learned in this experience - I think my "perfect" Strat would have elements of each guitar: the bloom and warmth of mine with some more of the staccato &...

I aim to please! Also, the guitar had a genie inside and I’m now a rock/porn star.

I played with them a little but wasn't really interested in devoting a ton of time to that. In any case, at lease as they were set they lacked a warmth and bloom that I get in my CS69s.

(FINAL?) UPDATE: So I picked up the American strat day before yesterday and had a chance to check it out and work on it a bit. I cleaned it up by wiping it all down with naphtha, got the old film that was welded to the pickguard off, put on new strings and did a basic setup (truss rod/relief...

Gotta love the look of the Player Plus Top Strats!

Some day I’d love to put a highly figured roasted maple neck on my Strat. It would look killer! But I can’t justify the price for something that would tonally be just rolling the dice.

I have no illusions on that front and that would be very low on my priority list.

I will preface this comment with the statement that THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION and it is purely a matter of taste, but I find SGs ridiculous looking. They look like someone wanted to make a little "devil guitar" with pointy little horns. I just can't take them seriously. I'm not proud of it but...

All I know is it was advertised as a MIM "Plus Top" in "aged cherry burst". I believe it's a 2018. I changed the tuners to Fender "classic gear" split shafts, the bridge to a "Pat Pending" Fender ashtray, saddles to Gotoh compensated brass saddles, and all of the electronics and pickups. I...

I'll see how it goes... I only started playing electric about 3 years ago to have a thing to do with my son who was 12 at the time. I've REALLY enjoyed it, even if progress has been slow. Along the way I decided I really wanted one of each of what I consider the "classic" guitars (for me - no...

Thanks, but I’m not upset. And FWIW I’m almost certainly not going to be the owner. I don’t think it’s “me”.

I've known this kids and their Mom for ten years. My son grew up scouting with them. Their Mom is a former Marine and is a lead working in the Presidential Helicopter program. If SHE tells me it's legit, I believe her.

I did. I spoke to the mother and got the full story: it belonged to a guy she dated who picked it up during C19 but gave up. Crappy 3rd hand story by the time it got to me. He isn't gonna play it and offered it up to her son to have if he wants it since he plays bass. Sorry for the...

I'm no expert, but I was looking at similar models / years on Reverb earlier and the few I looked at seemed significantly shinier. Thanks for the info on the saddles!

I just noticed - is it weird that the trem screws aren't stainless? Or at least look dark/maybe slightly corroded? I would have expected them to be brighter & more silver / "stainless" looking?

I'll try that - thanks! It'll be interesting to see what I think. Not sure I love the 2 point trem and block saddles. Not particularly light (7 lbs 15.5 oz)... Unless it turns out to be a heck of a player compared to my current strat I don't know that I'll be inclined to spend anything much...

Update: I picked up the guitar today. Many indications that it's basically unplayed but was probably left out for years. Looks like none of the stickers or protective film were ever removed. The film on the pick guard is basically fused to it. Not sure if that will ever come off. Sticker...
