    Just saw Dune [No Spoilers]

Im aware he was not an ‘imposing figure ‘ again - I read the book 1/2 dozen times Paul is not written as a muscled Chad but the actor is a noodle armed delicate dude and not a fan of him as Paul there is a middle ground he’s a decent actor but wrong for the part imnsho hth

    Just saw Dune [No Spoilers]

Disclaimer - read the book 1/2 a dozen times AND i really like the Lynch version. As for this version - i LOVED it ... my only complaints were the casting - the guy who plays Paul is way too skinny and emo. The actor who plays Chani has ZERO charisma and is completely nonbelievable as a Fremen...

Are there any american strat models that don't have a bone nut?

Well - strat pluses were American made - and featured two different brands of metal nuts Never bone

Is there ANY Beatles song as powerful as Gimme Shelter? or Heartbreaker I also dig the stones' live slurred guitar attack...

    Paul McCartney throwing shade.

well, yea. Because the Beatles were incredibly talented. Keep in mind they also worked with Martin for many years. You work with somebody you learn... they worked WITH him in the studio. So yea, after hundreds of hours with him - I'd also argue much of his genius and innovation rubbed off...

    Fake fender american ultra strats??

now this is true. ABSOLUTE STATEMENTS ARE ALWAYS WRONG :) (note: the irony). Some of the Chibsons have gotten very good. They used to be awful - for example, they almost always used epiphone type bridge posts (slotted). Or the routing in the cavities was a dead giveaway. I really do...

    Fake fender american ultra strats??

Ok first of all your last statement is false We NOTICE the cheap - shoddy fakes and ofcourse fenders as relatively inexpensive guitars compared to Gibson dont justify the higher costs of the really good fakes - those are mostly Gibson Its kind of like hair implants - you notice the bad ones...

    Paul McCartney throwing shade.

Its been argued a lot of the Beatles sophistication came from George Martin

    Paul McCartney throwing shade.

The stones catalog is pretty deep I'd argue this stones song does Beatles psychedelia as well as any Beatles song Ymmv

    Fake fender american ultra strats??

Are you serious? I don't know if you are implying some kind of bias in the question but its objective fact that Chinese made fakes are Produced overwhelmingly disproportionately compared to other countries - China is of course massively larger than other countries , has workers who work for a...

    We don't need pedals.

I may be stating the obvious here, but I would hope people realize the reverb effect was invented to mimic the natural effect one hears when one plays in a decent venue (concert hall etc) at volume. Iow, it's an artificial WAY to get a very natural phenomenon and a valued one - the pleasant...

Behind the nut open tuning beauty!

John 5 is such a great interviewee on musical topics. He really has a depth of knowledge of guitar styles and what makes it all the more great is he still has such enthusiasm for guitar. I believe I can hear the joy in his playing and it makes it better.

    We don't need pedals.

I really think this is a silly thing ... i think it's kind of a conceit .. "i don't NEED pedals". It's a humblebrag if not an outright brag. Pedals are just tools. Can people get too into pedals and lose sight of playing fundamentally well? Of course. But you can say the same about getting...

Best Strat pickups for jangly gooey biting sparkle (ha)

yea, i honestly think if lace gold sensors LOOKED like conventional pickups (with pole pieces - even if fake and embedded in the cover) they would be way more popular. Guitarists are just ABSURDLY conservative and if it isn't the same as what their heroes in the 60's and 70's played - IT'S NOT...

    Not a NGD. but it's a *****EN G so I figured I'd gush..

Yes! I am a hyooge Jett (and Runaways fan). Good point. She's bada$$ but she's a SMALL bada$$ and MM's are a great way to get a lot of guitar in a LIGHT package. . Especially the old ones - throw some killer pickups in them (and a fret job if needed) and they hold their own.

    "Play authentic"?

Any # of Japanese manufacturers do it as good or better than Gibson, with better materials and for less cost. And I own MANY Gibsons. I also own many MIJ's. Any Fujigen made MIJ (they have made guitars for many guitar companies e.g. Greco, Ibanez, Gretsch (most are made at Terada but there...

    Not a NGD. but it's a *****EN G so I figured I'd gush..

This is a super cool "player grade" guitar. From the front it looks exactly like a 1967-1968 Gibson SG. It's not. It's a Gibson SG Melody Maker. The main difference is the original pickups (since changed out) and the thickness of the body. These things are THIN front to back and thus LIGHT...

    Is Modern Music Really Bad?

Music doesn't suck today. Im mid 50's so I naturally think the music of the 80's is best ... But I recognize my bias and every generation experiences that What I still can't wrap my head around is how rock has expanded When I was playing guitar in high school in 1982 - rock and roll went...
