Almost 1 in the morning and the local morons are still setting off fireworks.
Pretty much every night like that.
I am just about out of patience

I hate this time of year. The fireworks scare my dog, and the sounds of mortars like the neighbor just shot off tonight just grates my nerves.

When we lived in Indiana, I dreaded the 4th, because for two weeks before and a week after there would be fireworks, culminating nightly in a Hollywood sound effects record of a war zone. No kidding, a guy just a couple of miles from my house repeatedly shot off an illegal cannon every year (and ended up doing Federal time on a whole bunch of illegal weapons and explosives charges). It was insane, and a huge majority of citizens hated it, but they never figured out how to organize their will into action.

Forgot to mention, the use of fireworks is forbidden by the city unless you have a permit from the chief of fire and safety.
But they sell them in every convenience store.
On top of that this week because of extreme drought and raging forest fires the Minister for Public Safety forbid fireworks and open air fires.
    Yet, every night.
Anyways, I am trying to put pressure to ban the sale of these things.

Where I live it sounds like artillery in the distance, I don't know what they are setting off but it's big.

I struggle with this because it is something I absolutely loved to do when I was young (while annoying old people) and absolutely hate now that I'm old (while annoying young people). So it's clearly all about me lol.

The main thing is the 70 pound dog thats terrified, climbs on top of me in bed pants and shivers for 30 minutes after the bombs go off.
I am giving her Zylkene right now, seems to help a little bit.
My 3rd dog thats afraid of fireworks, it gets old really fast

The neighborhood I lived in in central IL was majority Hindu. Every year during DiWali (their Festival of Lights) it was like the Fourth of July. Well, in addition to the Fourth of July. But, they had the good graces to knock it off before 22:00 hours. Really, the folks for the fourth were pretty much the same way.

Neither really bothered me. But, I like fireworks.

My property backs on to a rather exclusive Country Club.
Each year on the Fourth of July, they put on an extensive fireworks display.
They set up directly behind my house in the middle of the four holes behind my house.
It is pretty much like World War II going off in my backyard.
No, really - bombs bursting about 300 feet distant and 500-to-700 feet up in the air.
    Ground Zero.

It terrifies all of our pets.

Just before the appointed hour, The Mrs and I load up our pets each year and drive to the Pennsylvania border, then turn around and drive home. B6 the time we return, it’s all over.

So, I called the Country Club today, and they told me: “Unfortunately, because of the restrictions on gatherings, they will NOT be having their fireworks display this Fourth of July”

July 1st 1867 is when Canada obtained independence from the United Kingdom.
Roughly equivalent to the July 4th holiday in the USA. Not that I am defending the misuse of fireworks.

It's been the same around here, people setting off fireworks every night up until 1 or 2 am,
terrifying the dog and disturbing the peace.
OK, people should be allowed to indulge in their idea of fun, right?
Even at the expense of others...
So, maybe tonight i'll go out with my compound bow and a whole lot of steel tipped arrows and
show them what my idea of fun is. i might even give them until a count of ten as a head start.
    :p
