I'm considering getting a set of kinmans for my strat and instead of swapping the pickups only, I might as well just gut it out and build a loaded pickguard from kinman parts.

My strat currently has a 3-ply pickguard, so I'm wondering if it would look better w/ a 1-ply white pickguard.
The the pickup covers would be white, as well as all knobs and switch tip. What you guys think?

That is a really nice lookin strat! I voted 3 ply because 1 ply is just to flimsy looking and you don't want your pickguard to cave in when you are resting your fingers on it. You need the strength and reliability only 3 ply guards can offer. :)

If the 1 ply is the very thin type, then it will have the unfortunate tendency to warp.....the very reason why Fender went to 3-ply in fact.

1-ply white has a classic look to it:

    Versus a 3-ply parchment:

    I'll take the 1-ply!

Maple board and small headstock always look good with a 'vintage' style single ply.

I'm actually more interested in the scalloping you have going on there. Looks like a full on job like YJM. Your work sir or was it done for you or even before your ownership?

Always three ply, you don't want your finger going through it.

Thanks! Yes, it was the intent to sort-of look like an YJM. It does have noiseless pickups. The only thing I didn't want in the guitar is the big headstock and the vintage bridge.

That's actually a neck by Warmoth. I'm really impressed w/ their work on this particular neck. The fret ends came perfectly rounded. They don't typically round fret ends, but I'm guessing they either did it as a one-off OR ends rounded naturally when they were scalloping.

Hmmm this surf green looks delicious. I may change my mind and put on some aged knobs and pickup covers. Is this pickguard beveled or straight?

1-ply on Surf green just doesn't cut. It looks like a toy guitar.

I'd leave it as it is, it looks great.

It was beveled and was the same thickness as a 3-ply
