Exactly. The biggest red flag is the $10k obo price tag. Even without pics you know something’s up.

Yep I see this Explorer on Elderly (https://www.elderly.com/products/gibson-explorer-1963) that’s been there for I don’t know how many years now and they want more than 200 large for it. I assume that’s cuz it has real, verifiable provenance. Anything still original that Fender made in 1950 oughtta go for at least that.

i'm not going to post more, but gary has proper lost the plot - he's sending all manner of demented messages - apparently he will pee in my @ss.

oh, and when i commented on his rather splendid bandana, he said
"Good cuz this is real rock and roll you know nothing about it you think this is a f****** costume this is a way of life".

    Marvellous!!

I said something about judging a book by its cover in my first post. Well when I clicked the FB link and then his profile pic, that’s all I needed to see.

We should start a FB page called the FFFS (Fake Fender Finder Society)… Reach out to him and informed him that our FFFS investigator has identified his FB account as a scammer and that we are currently in contact with FB Security Dept to support a legal complain…. Wonder if his tune would change….

Right off the bat the price should scare you off immediately because a real 1950 model would be much more expensive. I agree there are a lot of things about this that don't smell right like the color, tuners, bridge and I'm sure the list goes on. This is definitely a case of buyer beware.

    Guys,

This is the first commercially successful electric guitar. It’s 71 years old. It sounds FANTASTIC. Has such a legacy. Many people played them. They are the holy grail of guitars. AND there was only a few 100 made because they had to stop the Broadcaster name because Gretsch sent them a letter saying they already used the same name for a drum set they made. So there’s not many of them and the demand is super high for all the reasons i mentioned above. An amazing guy called Nachos Banos wrote a book just on these guitars only and even that book now could fetch ridiculous money (500 dollars I saw somewhere). Hell the s t r a p is going for 5k on Reverb: https://reverb.com/item/45437785-fe...are&utm_campaign=listing&utm_content=45437785

ALL this, and only 10k, double the price of its strap?
Yeah, either this guy is running a charity or he’s trying to get away with selling a Partscaster for way much more than it’s worth (which one is more likely I wonder :whistling:)

From a linguistic standpoint, this looks like a scam. In addition to the cut and paste of photos different guitars, there is nice, flowing copy that doesn't match the jarring, sloppy grammar and foul language in the texts. The person who wrote the copy would not have written the texts and vice versa.

I have seen a similar scam with cars, where people run the exact same ad in different cities with stock photos and collect the cash or at least down payments before moving on, maybe further robbing the victim, maybe not.

This person has pictures of guitars, but it's likely that there's no actual guitar.
