So I found this Strat on CL for $200. Ad describes it as a 2008 MIM Strat, no other details. I sent a couple of questions to the seller, and haven't heard back yet. Obviously at that price I'm a little concerned that it might be a Strat neck on some other body. Can anyone here confirm that MIM Strats were made in that color in 2008, and are there any other tell-tale signs I should be looking for? Also, does anyone here know what body wood would have been used to build this guitar? Thanks!

Electron blue. I’d jump on that deal.

Do you have a higher resolution photo showing the serial number?

If so type it in here.....

    https://start.fender.com/serial-number

That sure looks like a proper MIM body....and you know what....if it's $200 with case, it's worth it regardless, even if it's the cheapest of cheap Squier body and Squier electronics.....worth it for neck and case alone by far....

body wood is alder or poplar, doesn't really matter what it is.....doesn't affect tone....

That's a great price! According to the 2007 Fender Catalogue – which is close enough, the colour is 'Electron Blue' – please see attached:

I'd personally say it is what it claims to be... body wood would be Alder, neck Maple and Fretboard Rosewood – the full specs can be found here: https://www.fuzzfaced.net/standard-stratocaster.html

I hope that helps :thumb: !

The serial number is MZ8133613. Looks legit to me, and the serial seems to check out. Waiting to hear from the seller...

    Hope you jumped.

I bought my '99 MIM Standard Strat for $150 on CL. It had a broken pot.

In a heartbeat. Normally when they don't respond someone is on the way already.

I got one with a hard case and amp for $150 last year. These deals exist. Less often than they used to.. but still you find them every once in awhile.

Yup that's Electron Blue, I've got one exactly like that. 2008 was the last year for this color, with the 2009 refresh it was replaced by a rather light version of Lake Placid Blue.

I got an electron blue 2006 mim last year off cl. Love it. I replaced the white pickguard with a mint one and put on some aged white pickup covers and knobs and it looks a lot better to my eyes.
