I saw that last night on my local PBS station. I'm buying it. It's a SB Pre CBS Strat with OHSC. I bet it would bring every bit of that.

If money were no object people would buy it. Not many forumites (or anyone) have $60,000 for a guitar. It remains a pipe dream for most.

Odd, todays guitars are far superior to those made in the early years.

Yes there are gems in each era.

If they had mass produced the pre CBS strats like they do now, then everyone would have one.

I kinda glad I'll never own enough money to be that kind of collector. I've got maybe 600bux in this one I built, and I'm not scared to play the arse out of it.

Many quotes on that show are "what value to insure it ",
    Then half as "retail"
I have no idea the value but even 30k is ridiculous

I work closely with a very high end guitar dealer that sells custom color fenders like this daily. You would be surprised. That quote isn’t too far from accurate to the right buyers these days. For example we sold a clean ‘65 in CAR (which is far more common) for 40k last week. A Sonic blue would probably realistically bring close to 50k.

If I was going to spend 60 Grand on a guitar, it better be a GENUINE CERTIFIED ORIGINAL @Stratafied partscaster.

    Anything else is just garbage.

On lower end models for sure.

But I have a hard time believing the current CEO who's last job was selling Disney Princess wedding dresses has higher standards than the Founder of the company who put his name on the guitar had.

Its not about standards, its about technology. Better build techniques, less human error. The stuff built today is more consistent, less human interaction, better quality components.
The myth perpetuated by nostalgia and famous players.
Its the same with old musclecars. The stuff built today will outperform those dinosaurs in every way shape and form. Yet a 70 hemi cuda is worth stax of cash.
Its a mystery to me really.
