Nothing that would make me spend $9.414k.

Is it safe to assume that certain builders get more for their work than others?

No idea why it’s so much, but this looks **** in my opinion.

    6E043BFA-A287-4C4A-AB01-2FAD77FA2E5F.png

Looks like loads of creatures crawled all over the clear coat before it dried.

some lacquer checking looks lovely, that does not IMO.

It certainly looks a bit strange with all those new shiny unblemished bits, and does give the impression of an accident instead of age or intended relicing.

Over doing the checking is what many Closet Classics feature. My Nocaster is much the same but possible less noticeable on the blonde body.

My old '66 Jazz Bass developed a fair amount of checking from traveling and being stored overnight in a trailer during sub zero temps.

If it was a closet queen for 50 years(isn't that, what their intent is?), wouldn't it look that way? It "wasn't played" so where would it get patina?

It's not even vintage spec. Might as well buy a Squier CV.

It was probably hand cut with a craft knife by a trainee.

Holy cow...up here in Canada it's $12,428.65 CAD! Well it it a 1959 Masterbuilt Ron Thorn Stratocaster in Ocean Turquoise. I think he is like the top master builder at Fender Custom Shop. The fret board looks like a very dark rosewood slab. And the body checking looks authentic but maybe it is better looking in person. The back of the neck has a slight maple flame but it's listed as 'AA' flame maple. On that price I would pass...that is way too much for a guitar! Now if Ron would have added rhinestones to this Strat that were made of Bakelite for that vintage mojo then I would probably consider it.;)

£7,266 here. That's silly money for a guitar. It would buy a house in Rotherham...

Oxidation, humidity variation, temperature variation, etc etc etc. Even museums have to clean and polish things from time to time. In a closet isn't the same as in a vacuum ;);)

That's big bucks for a strat, I'd never pay anywhere near that for a guitar.

As for a house in Rotherham, £7K might get you a shed in Oxford.........

You might be able to get something like this around here. It has a nice relic finish...
