A Flock of Seagulls - I Ran (My Cover Version)

I sung, played and mixed all the parts for this back in July 2020, while in my actual bed recovering from major leg surgery. Just me, my MacBook and my Fender Stratocaster American Deluxe. I haven't touched the mix, but I've re-mastered it in accordance with my current - hopefully, more advanced process. It is and will remain, after I'm gone (not long now) the only record of me singing - and not too badly either, even if I say so myself.

So this is the official Misterwogan legacy - one time only, not be repeated.

I keep saying Flock of Seagulls is as much a guitar band as a synth band. I had a lesson book back in the first half of the 80s with music and tab from this song, as well as things from Robert Fripp and Adrian Belew. I gave it to a friend of mine. Are you going to be doing more vocals?

JAMES

PS I hope your leg is doing better.

You should sing more.

I did try after being encouraged by my performance on this song - but it all crashed and burned. I was still very happy that I nailed the guitar parts - first time - which is not what I was expecting to happen. The song is in A, but I had to record my vocal in Ab and then use Logic to pitch it up. So, it seems that I'm just a-one-song-kinda-guy.

I recall this when you first posted it and thought it sounded great then. I haven't A/B'd the two of them but from memory this sounds fuller than I recall. Fantastic job!

I certainly hope this isn't your swan song. Please don't give up.

Yes, I remember you rave comments at the time. I was very grateful for them.

You are quite right. The guitarist, Paul Reynolds was primarily responsible for their signature sound.

No lip service either. It's one of my favorite songs of the era and one that I made a video of some years back. I tend to listen songs I've covered before a little closer and after yours I was like, "Whoa! This killed my version." :D

Stop it, or I'm gonna start crying. Oops, forget that - I've started already.

I too remember when you posted this originally because it was quite stunning how well you covered this! The performance, mixing...amazing stuff. This could be the original band heading back to the studio and releasing something called "I Ran 2021".

Always loved this song, especially back in the day. Plenty of air guitar was playing while listening to this!
