Buy a decent used Martin d-18 or d-28 from the early 70’s and have it gone over by a qualified luthier and get the neck set, frets, action and intonation dialed in. These are the most underrated vintage acoustics. And for close to the money you have to spend will get you into a much better guitar than anything new. Install a K&K pickup and your good to go for many years of great tone and playability.

THE RESULT: $1588 Taylor 514ce, GuitarCenter, brand new---guitar/setup/strap. I believe I got very lucky.

A buddy of mine that plays solo swears by the Martin DM. Nothing fancy but a real workhorse.
