    Hey Everyone!

Man, have I got some questions for you guys.

I began playing in 1965, when I was 13, on my older brother's Gibson LG-1. Played mostly in the proverbial bedroom for the better part of 25 years, with an occasional band -- I didn't have time for anything more. During that time I was a Gibson fan and bought a shiny new 1973 SG Standard (Norlin...need I say more?). I should have bought the white Tele hanging next to it! I played that until about 1978, when I traded it for a Fender BF Bassman Head, circa 1965.

Also in '78 I attended Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery, in Phoenix, where I built three electrics and an one acoustic. The third electric was my own design; until that point they only allowed students to use their designs. Another first at R-V was I wound the first humbucker -- they said it couldn't be done on Bob Venn's fairly basic pickup winder. Hah! Long story short, I didn't start repairing guitars until the mid-'90s and I only recently retired from doing so. I did build some guitars for myself, though I was never that interested in building them for a living -- I had a decent career as a cabinetmaker/furniture builder. Retired from that too. I'm currently on a hiatus (like so many of us) from the jazz trio I'm in.

In reverse order of acquirement, my Fender gear:

    • 2020: Special Edition ‘60s Stratocaster Daphne Blue Lacquer (2015) MIM, purchased new.
    • 2018: 1964 Blackface Tremolux (I had one in HS, which I sold, unfortunately)
    • 2006: 1974 Silverface Princeton Reverb
    • 2001: 2001 American Standard Tele
    • 1999: 1964 Princeton 6G2
Other gear, guitars, etc.? Yes, many.

Alrighty, time to dive into the forums, and see what new things I can learn about Strats!

Welcome to this little corner of the universe. I have a buddy who went to Roberto-Venn in the mid-70s. He still has and plays the acoustic he built.

Welcome from another one who was late to the party.

I once had a '67 Strat that I must have sold or traded for something around 1969-70 and never bought another 'til last June so roughly a 50 year drought.

If I'd have just kept that '67 and much of the other stuff I sold way back when I could afford and whole room full of Strats and Teles. :(

I too bought a 73 Norlin SG Standard brand new. First 'name brand' guitar. Brought it home nekkid on a bus because I couldn't afford thirty bucks for a case at the time. Played it for decades, still have the guitar and nothing has ever broken on the thing. It does have case now.

You were not far off from me. Began playing in 1957 and got my first Strat in 2002.
