Has anyone else checked out the first release from Alex Lifeson's new band...Envy of None? It's called, "Liar". Just listened to it on YT Music. I like the singer's voice. Has kind of a Shirley Manson vibe. Actually, the whole song is sort of Garbage-esque in my mind. Kind of cool. Can't say that Alex really sticks out in this one, but glad he's making music again.

I've seen that he's released the single and has the new band but yet to give it a listen. I'm also glad to see him moving on, he's far too talented to sit idle.

I gave it a listen. its not bad. I agree, he doesn't stand out on this but I'm also fine with that. He's one of my all time favorites but the direction he took towards the end wasn't my cup of tea. I completely respect that he embraced new sounds and styles though and didn't just cliché himself when he could have very well done that.

If you're expecting it to have that Rushy vibe you won't like it.

If you listen to it for what it is then not bad.

Glad to see Alex enjoying himself:thumb:

Very industrial metal/rock sounding. Seems like this is about 20 years late on the trend, but it’s good quality!

some people just have the music in them, and won’t quit until they have to. Good for him. This track is better than some Rush tracks I’ve heard

No Rushy vibe. And way too dense!! Every moment doesn't have to have something going on. Dynamics never hurt anyone

i like it! guitar parts sound great, vocal and lyrics are pleasant to hear and interesting and the noise/industrial vibe feels good.

It does sound like Garbage but in a good way.

Very 90's Industrial/Grunge Vibe for sure.

I personally couldn't stand Rush (well.... Geddy's singing), so to me this is a huge improvement.

20 years too late or 4 years too early for that Sonic Revival??

Also, I'm going to rename my band *Sonic Revival" you heard it here first.

Edit. I guess Sonic Revival was already used for Sonic......... The Hedgehog.

I like it better than Rush, though it's less unique.

Interesting that a Alex's point of contention for Rush in the 80s was the ever increasing use of keyboards by Geddy. Now Alex is doing a heavy synth thing post-rush.

I like that Alex is doing something with a band. The cple instrumental songs that he came out with the launch of his Epi sig Les Paul in summer were interesting, but not a career.

IMO he's a band guy, not a solo artist.

His playing has had a major influence on me coming up. I like Al.

I like it but it but its more soundscape-y/soundtrack-y than I expected. Song just ended and its already kind of forgettable...just my opinion though

Yep. I want to hear more (a full album) before making a final judgment. It does remind me of something that would be on the Matrix Reloaded soundtrack circa 2002.

At least it’s not Rush-lite. Female vocalist is good, it’s just missing a catchy chorus that’s memorable and singable. Not an earworm, but I like the potential.

put that singer and band with a good songwriter, I think they could be very cool.

Can't say I personally care for it(that sound was never really my thing), but I'm glad that if he still wants to be doing something, he's doing it. That's good to see.

    Exactly.

All during Rush's existence all three of them were up front and open that they had to make music they liked first and greatly appreciated it if others did too.
