We were feeling lazy, and ended up as sofa vegetables watching the whole “Lord of the Rings” trilogy at one sitting (no, we’d never seen it). Got hungry between “The Two Towers” and “Return of the King” and sent out for Mexican food. A thoroughly enjoyable time was had by all.

Is it true Luke was Darth Vader's son? Have not seen all three. The one with the whales was good.

I bought the whole set from Amazon UK about three years ago, with the intent of doing the same thing. Still haven't managed to put aside the time... :(

Did manage to watch "The Hobbit", though. 'Cause, naturally, I have to watch them in the proper order.

If it wasn't the extended editions, it doesn't count. You gotta go back and do it again.

There was a local indie cinema doing this here in Auckland for the 20 year anniversary…

Rats! The extended versions were available on HBO, but we watched the theatrical cuts.

What I want to know is: is Sam, and not Frodo, the real hero of LOTR?

I have nothing like the bladder control required to watch any movie lasting almost three hours, still less three of epic duration, so I'd really have to watch them at home! :D

    Next problem: attention span...

Did this with room mates son when I was "baby sitting" him. Extended cuts!

We both had bad colds and rolled up on the couch! It was great! I think we did the Matrix Trilogy the next day!

Only food was a huge Boston Cream Pie!

BTW I think the Hobbit is better! Martin Freeman's Bilbo was more convincing than Elijah Wood's Frodo.

It’s a great day indeed. Really well done films.

I’ve read the books a couple of times and always cite Sam as the hero. Never once did he get selfish and was always loyal to Frodo and the mission.

That is almost verbatim what I said to Lisa at the end.

    Sam is definitely the hero.

That is a true feat. I love the movies, but not sure if I could dedicate 9 hours straight to it.
I remember seeing the midnight premiere of Return of the King. I was a senior in high school, and there were a ton of people there. Midnight premieres used to be such a big deal.
I had class the next morning. That part was rough. I got home at probably 3:30 am.

I have the original theatrical series then got the extended on Blu Ray. Now there's a 4K version coming out. Yup, I'll end up with it

Also have the Hobbit series on Blu-ray as well. They are good but I like LOTR better
