Is this a good idea? I mean my MIM has the maple neck and is nice, but I like the idea of an american rosewood neck with the rollercoaster logo. Have many of you done this upgrade?

the neck pockets are the same size, so no issues there.
And with 2 1/16" string spacing, no issues there with the wider usa nut.

and my personal philosophy is that I'll never know until I try.
(you could always fleabay the neck back if it wasn't what you thought)

I put a John Mayer Neck on my Blizzard Pearl MIM 60TH Anniv. Strat. However, I own a Robert Cray Strat with Rosewood neck - Stock from Fender - Very Nice - I would reccomend forgetting U.S. and buy one e-bay for $250.00-$300.00. Other than that, pay $400.00 and pick out a Great Neck from Warmouth - FAR BETTER THAN WHAT FENDER USES and RADIUS ON NECK DOES NOT HAVE STRINGS FRETTING OUT - SOOOOO COMMON WITH FENDE STRATS.

good upgrade i mean better than paying for a full MIA fender becuase a MIM body is really good enough there very close

I don't consider it an upgrade.

I've got more MIM Strats (2 of 3) with stock necks than I have MIA production Strats with stock necks (1 of 3, plus one stock Custom Shop). I do like the Warmoths I have, both Fatback and Boatneck, but I find my USACG Strat necks are considerably better still.

If you ever have an issue with your Warmoth neck. Well, don't; you won't like how you'll be treated.

All MIM necks are made in the Corona factory in California. All.
There is no difference in a MIA neck or a MIM neck except for the sticker.

They are produced in CA - then shipped down to the Encinada factory for assembly. There is a tour video from Fender floating around that clearly shows how they do it.

Can one even purchase a MIA neck (new) without buying the entire guitar?

I considered this upgrade myself, but the techs at GC in Dallas told me the same thing...the only difference is the decal on the headstock.

I don't know if Fender will sell you one, but there are several companies (Like STRATosphere on ebay) that buy new guitars and sell the components separately. While it's technically not "new", it's the next best thing. The prices aren't exactly cheap, though.

The guitars come out of the box and are immediately disassembled.

I believe the American necks have 22 frets as opposed to 21 on an MIM. Not a huge deal but sometimes I wish I had that 22nd fret :) If only I had an extra $300 bucks to spend.

Old thread, I know. But it may be useful for someone. I think MIA necks are contoured and MIM aren't. Not a big deal but the edges are rolled and they are just nicer to the touch from head to toe

My Gilmour partscaster is a MIA neck on a MIM body. It'll be all right.
