Ampex 620 Suitcase Amp

Greetings,

I recently stumbled across a local FB Posting for an Ampex 620 tube amp. From what I can find, these "suitcase" amps were actually more of a speaker/monitor for early reel to reel tape recorders and phonographs. I'm not sure if it would be practical as a guitar amp project but for $60 bucks I'm going to check it out later today. The guy posting it says it powers on but doesn't have a way to test it so unknown if it actually works.

Anyone have experience with these? What do you think?

If you have space and like old things, it's a deal just for decorative purposes. Getting it made safe and working properly may require a considerable amount of money.

Quick update
I went ahead and got it. After getting it home gave it a shot plugging it in to see if it works....it powers up but no sound so reached out and waiting to hear back from a local amp tech.

Let the games begin!
