Id say a CC to both parties. Why couldnt they work together instead of Experience Hendrix attacking the non profit? Seem like a deal could be worked out within the Hendrix family.

Leon Hendrix is in trouble for selling a strat that he said belonged to Jimi....not because there is questionable authenticity but because he used the name Jimi Hendrix when describing the strat?

In the U.S., corporations have more rights and much less liability than individuals, these days.

OTOH, I had thought the even if you had a famous name, if you set up a business in your own name, that could not be taken from you. Maybe this is different.

No, they could call it the Tina Hendrix music school if they like. From other info I’ve seen on the case they were selling apparel with jimi on it and used the term Experience Hendrix on a few things. This is what they are barred from doing, not simply using the last name. Authentic Hendrix LLC does own the rights to using the name Jimi Hendrix for selling products, this is why Leon was sued for using his brothers name to sell a guitar. Now of course I doubt they would come after an individual who owned a Hendrix owned guitar and was selling it and mentioned his name but there is a lot of bad blood between them and Leon so they go after him every time he does it. Like the Hendrix vodka thing from years back.

I side with Leon, his daughter and their associates. This is small fish compared to the big machine Janie has in her hands. To go after them in such a way is awful. Leon could never possibly cause the slightest damage to whatever activity by Experience Hendrix and Authentic Hendrix.

"Trademarks are going to be protected" I hear. Yes... in a world run by hungry hyenas and wolves. Which is really an offense to actual hyenas and wolves, who, like all other living beings (except humans) only take what they need, and nothing more.

 

Trademarks are extremely important for businesses and siding with someone based on opinions doesn’t negate a law. Do you believe it’s okay for someone to rip off Fender? If not why is it okay here?

And who’s to say how much I or anyone else needs? Free market and capitalism all day for me! I freaking love money and the things I can do and buy with it so if I had something copyrighted or patented I would fight tooth and nail to protect it just as I would for any of my property. Al expressly excluded Leon from anything related to his brother’s estate (save one gold record he gave him) so that is how it goes. Leon IMO is a hack and trying to ride on his brothers coat tails cause he’s just not that good.
