Another stray "Strat"

I got this from My Son-In-Law last week---he knows I like to rescue broken and abused Guitars. It's an Austin AST100RD. The body is nearly flawless, the color is badass, and the electronics work as they should, but the neck is FUBAR. I happened to have a neck in stock that fits perfectly. One of the tuners is also broken, but I have a set of take-offs in the parts bin. I got the neck from Guitar Fetish with no frets, and no nut slot for $20. I keep Black Tusq nut blanks, trem springs, and fret wire in stock. I'll have a nice Guitar for little more than a few hours of my time!

I just ordered all new guts for this rebuild---full-size pots, Vintage wound pups with reverse wound middle, and all Black Plastics. I already have a red S-type with White.

Fun project and I like that headstock shape.
But $20? Is there a working truss rod in that hole? Or maybe earthworms?

I had a crap chiseled out Strat body once and cut the whole middle out, glued the wings on a new middle and routed a new neck pocket etc etc.

That color is sweet! I love getting those strays that no one wants or wants to get rid of...nice grab and give us a look when it's done, ok?

I have a Squier trem with a bigger block, and new springs in stock. If I decide to keep it I'll probably put a Brass block in it.

The new loaded pickguard came in today. A few minor adjustments around the neck pocket to get it perfectly aligned, and I'll be in business.

The first step is to cut a nut slot. Then I'm going to sand the whole thing, gently re-shape the profile, then re-finish it with Minwax Wood finish. I'll have to experiment with tinting the finish until I get a vintage amber. It's getting medium frets, and a Black Tusq nut. This is basically going to be a Brand New Guitar
