Anything you lit with them tasted like you were sucking on a Suzuki GT250 exhaust pipe.
... Well, I always had a weakness for the smell of Castrol TTS...
I think they’re endangered, probably down to deforestation and climate change. Their natural habitat is being eroded by the day and.........................oops, not hippos, sorry guys.
Preferred Castrol R myself.
I have a small collection somewheres. Don't smoke anymore so I don't carry a lighter. But I probably should just in case I need to throw it in slow motion, at a gasoline leak, as the bad guy leaps for the gun on the ground and I walk away with the girl as the whole building explodes.
You never want to be unprepared.
Lighting a cigar with a fuel lighter is just a matter of savoir faire.
You light a piece of cedar or other wood with the Zippo and use it to light the cigar.
Or, if you don’t carry chips of wood with your cigars, wait a couple of seconds with the flame up, and don’t let the cigar touch the flame. Take your time and let the heat around the flame do the job.
I found a Zippo lighter on a London street in the 70s, bashed and battered to hell, probably run over a few times.
I sent it, with my name and address, to the not-much-of-an-address (as in "Zippo, Bradford, PA") on the bottom of the lighter and a few weeks later they sent me a new one.
Great. A friend of mine recently found one on the beach that had Legion Etrangere stuff engraved.
I have an Austrian-made Zippo clone from the 60s or 70s. I can't even remember where it came from, maybe in a box of other random garage sale stuff. Every time I stumble across it I think cool a Zippo forgetting about it, but I can never get it to light. It has all the tactile feel of a Zippo, right sound opening and closing, but it's only good for a smoker quitting, lol.
I may end up ordering a Zippo off Amazon just to have for the Zombie Apocalypse kit, as I'm not a smoker, since they are windproof. Maybe when I need something to add up for free shipping.
Last time I looked Zippos up, I found this old style that was originally fashioned in the trenches of WWI by solders from spent brass shell casings.
For those that ruined their cigar with lighter fluid ... you could probably try a high proof fancy bourbon in a fresh Zippo. Carmel and toasted oak flame would go well with a cigar and a glass.
I’ve hated cigarettes since I was a kid. Both parents smoked. Couldn’t breathe. Memories of smoked filled car with windows rolled up in December on Long Island. Both parents had Zippos. Don’t like Zippos but they do look cool.
They make great slides.
I only smoked cigarettes so that I could flick my Zippo to light them … I flicked my last Zip 21 years ago .
You didn't, by chance, happen to learn the trick of snapping your fingers to make it light?
That one’s easy. Toughest one is to squeeze it open and light it in the same move
I used to be able to squeeze one open, but never quite got the knack of catching the wheel with my index finger while executing the squeeze move.
All I use is zippos. I got a few Harley ones.. fender had a nice one out too I wouldn’t mind finding and grabbing!
