Since the world issue don’t seem to be lifting and it’s annoying to travel, decided to adventure/travel inside my province. In Alberta there’s a ton of cool spots off the beaten path, just not accessible with a sports car.

Sold my Subaru to buy a off-road adventure machine. Always had a Land Rover at some point in life so it was only logical to get another one.

Now to turn it into a proper rig and take care of the soccer mom look.

Used to spend several weekends a month from Thanksgiving till about March or so camping/off-roading a the CA Offroad Vehicle Monument out in the desert S/W of Coachella.

Mostly bikes, dune buggies, odysseys, quads and 3 wheelers (before they stopped making them).

    Those were wild times....

My name is from my old wheeling days...Toy being from Toyota.

I love(d) camping and driving fire roads. It is still a goal to drive the TransAmerica Trail.

This is the last Toyota I had...in progress. A lot of work went into it.

Yeah my wife and I used to go camping years ago but haven’t gone in years. Our vacations would be, Mexico, Vegas or BC somewhere.

Figured we might as well get back into camping, lots of cool spots to see that are fairly cheap. Camping gear is far from cheap but hey it gets us outside at least.

Yes we have lots of those fire trails here right in my backyard really. It’s a blast but I’ve only really ever done it with dirt bikes. I have a good buddy with a newer Tacoma and my brother bought a new Bronco. So it’s going to be a fun time.

    Used prices are ridiculous.

I'm kind of torn between a JLURD or Gladiator Rubicon, but it's strictly stuff to think about as I'd wait to fall asleep, because I have the money for neither.
But you get a model other the Rubicon and make up for the lack of size with a small trailer, kind of like turtle back.

I work at a car dealership so we do get a lot of used cars in. Even with my discount the prices on jeep are through the roof. On the other hand, we get them in and their gone within a week.

I liked the land Rover’s because I know them fairly well, meaning their issues. Still for me I wanted a 4x4 machine with all the bells and whistles. This was the last of the Rovers that had that.

Center locker, 2 stage locking read diff, just massive control arms, skid plates, tow package and seats 7!! The 850 watt 17 speaker stereo sounds pretty sweet too.

I get out with the dogs in the Tacoma, but nothing crazy, no crawling, and we’re always home by sundown. It’s my daily driver, and camping is kinda pretending to be homeless where I’m from.

Yup, I’ll always bring the bikes with us. In my old Subaru it was annoying because I never felt comfortable with 2 giant downhill bikes bouncing around the 1-1/4” little hitch.

Now I can feel better with a proper 2” hitch. BDBA3A01-06F1-4C85-9C00-D3777E922E53.jpeg

Lots of camping. And beach driving (e.g., to get to remote parts of the Outer Banks in NC). No lift (yet) as 95% of driving is on road. The racks and such are great for band equipment as well.

I've been off-road a fair bit...I hate the times it is due to a failed physics experiment.

Looks great! That’s all I want to do really. A small 1.5 to 2” lift, some racks and that’s it. Not rock crawling but still some of these remote trails we have here can get pretty wild.
