I recently bought an Oly White 1980s squier beautifully faded to a nice cream as they will do, and like it a lot, with a couple exceptions; Gap way too big in the neck pocket (somebody replaced original neck with an Affinity 20th anniversary neck - yet it still intonates?) and P/Us and pots could be a lot better. (very little tone control, almost no volume taper.)

I bought it to hang on the wall in my office primarily so I could grab it when stress gets high and I need a quick come-down.

Never able to leave well enough alone, I just ordered a loaded pickguard w/ area 58/61 DiMarzio's and am about to order a new neck.

    Who's working on something similar?

Only did that once many years ago. All I did though was swap necks on two MIM strats and for some odd reason everything lines up great, only took a very small amount of fiddling with to get them to play and sound good. That's about the extent of any partscasting I've done aside from moving p/u's around.

Bought a black Aria strat copy used for 60 aud. Replaced the neck with a 22-fret all maple one. Shortened the trem bar, soon to slap on a black guard and fender decal when they arrive. Instant Gilmour! Not 100% accurate but it's enough to satisfy my Pink Floyd nerdiness. Oh and I just need to lower the nut slots, they came WAY too high. Might also get some nicer trem springs.

I'm in a "3x2" situation--I'm seriously considering 3 new guitars to add to my collection, but will only allow myself 2 of them (and perhaps only 1). I want a second "keeper" Strat (I started a thread about that a couple of weeks ago), and I'm considering an all solid wood acoustic Guild. The 3rd choice is a lark--Squiers Strats are such good guitars these days that I'm considering a Squier Bullet in white or red and then swapping in an MIA pickguard. I figure I'll have $300 or so invested in an amazing sounding Strat.

Funnily enough, I'm in the process of putting a 20th anniversary Affinity neck on my '90s Squier body. Unfortunately it needs a 2mm shim in the neck pocket, as the Affinity neck has a very thin heel, and the body has a very deep pocket! On the plus side, the tuners I've bought should arrive today...

Waiting on my body to come back from finisher. One piece swamp ash in White Blonde. Lollar Blonde pickups. USACG roasted quartersawn flame maple and Brazilian rosewood fretboard. Callaham hardware on body, Kluson Supreme staggered tuners and an old Lashing celluloid mint pickguard. The Mario Martin was my inspiration.

I really want a Clapton crash strat, the rainbow one, soon as I can find a painted body and neck I can put in all the other stuff I have lying around here, the boost kit, vintage noiseless etc.

I just completed the final touches (hopefully) on my "Let's see how cheap I can make a great guitar" Blackie partscaster project...

    • 2001 Squier SE Special Body (Agathis)
    • 2013 Fender (CIC) Modern Player Neck (maple w/ rosewood fingerboard) I did a "single" Fender string tree modification (it originally had two string trees)
    • Tonerider Surfari AlNiCo III Pickups.
    • Fender MIM Tremolo.
    • Fender Mint Green Pickguard.
    • Fender S-1 Volume Control Pot (for bridge+neck pickup combination)
    • Fender "No-Load" Tone Control (bottom pot, hooked up to bridge and middle pickups).
    • Fender Custom Tinted Aged White Plastic Parts *(I darkened the pickup covers, knobs, switch and trem bar tips)

I’m currently working on my third build which, hopefully, will be a little bit out of the ordinary but certainly not unique. I’m having problems with my first finish at the moment. I had added the second colour coat and managed to let it fall of my stand onto the concrete below.

Yesterday it looked like I had been working towards a relic finish, which is a real pain in the backside.

Star soon Mr Thomquietwolf before the weather starts to work against you. It’s great fun, and the long periods of sanding are quite therapeutic. Not that I’m suggesting that you need any therapy! :p
