I just finished the refin and coin install on the Thin Blue line SG Junior and will be now doing one with an actual badge inlaid into it with a Aztec-ish gold body and custom p'ups as well as an entire new fret job, neck reprofiling and recontouring the body to more of a 50's style.

Ok, so a couple of weeks ago this thread got me itching to make some changes to my black Strat so I ordered a bunch of parts from the BQLZR, Musiclily & PS Music Group stores on Amazon and the parts have been trickling in. Today the pickguard arrived so it was time to put it all together.

    Here's the before:

Here's the new pickguard with wiring:

    Here's the results:

The net result is awesome! I love the look! I mean what a transformation. It looks even better in real life than in the photos. It's like a really sleek black car. I'm really surprised at how much I love this new look.

Also, these rail neodymium pickups don't sound like any of my other singe coils. I'm really digging the middle pickup so far. I'm recording some things and the tone of the middle pickup is just fantastic.

    Win win!

EDIT: One more photo just because I can :D

This one still has a long way to go, but it's my first ever partscaster and I'm excited about where it's heading.

    Cool!

What colour is that? Is that a Sonic Blue or a Daphne?

2-point Modern Trem. I’m really digging what I see and I think I’ll need to do something similar myself. I’m kinda thinking solid rosewood neck. Not sure what colour I’d go with the pick guard.

Neck is on it's way to me from across the country. Almost went with a solid dark colored neck, but a certain FSR Strat piqued my interest and went in a similar direction with that.
Pickups also on the way to me are inspired by another certain artist signature strat.

I bought a nice lightweight alder strat body from Japan a few years back and rattle canned it olympic white, going for the Hendrix Woodstock look, tried a Warmoth neck on it first and then made various big headstock necks for it but the end guitar was always so-so (even with CS 69's)...recently stripped the body back in order to start from scratch on a 1962 replica, put in some DAllen '62's, replica pickguard, aluminium shield, vintagey Kluson Revolution tuners etc, and made a roasted maple/rosewood neck for it, crikey, what a change of fortune! Still considering respraying it (in part to cover up the jarrah neck pocket repair) but in the meantime it's got a small headstock Bonnie Raitt look:

That is a great look. I am just completing one that looks something like it, but the grain in that body grabs the eye. Nice work.

Finished this last week, got the last few details sorted out this week. I sprayed this lacquer on a very hot day and it was past lunch when I finished it. There were tiny bubbles in the finish which is probably because the surface was drying to fast and forming a skin. I think I am leaving it, I still have some of this mix but I am just going with it. You can see where the bubbles got sanded off and they were only in the dark brown, as much as everyone hates relics it more less looks like it was intentional.

Pickups/guard came in today, as well as the gotoh locking tuners:

Guard is a little redder than I would have liked, but oh well. Maybe I'll find a nice dark brown tort guard somewhere

Here's the "stage of completion" my latest project is currently at........

    IMG_1055.JPG

I have some other parts (bridge) coming in the mail. I will be replacing my "custom neck" with the one on the left, until I learn how to make frets. :D The light blue block of wood is a test sample of what color it "may" be........

Agreed! It looks too good to be covered up! :thumb:

Reminds me of a Hybrid body I ordered from Warmoth once. I had planned on a paint job, so bought Alder. Normally, Alder won't need to be grain-filled, and doesn't have very interesting grain patterns. But when I got it to my door, it was WAY too pretty to paint over. It turned out nice.........

I’m planning to sand and refinish the neck. New tuners and nut. New trem block. And maybe new pick ups. Will see how it all goes!
