obviously the big kings are musts: Jimi, SRV, Clapton, Mayer, Frusciante, Eric Johnson

are there some lesser known players you guys recommend that really encapsulate what a strat sound is all about?

I love Funk and Soul/R&B. Right now my favorite current Strat players are Cory Wong and Gabriella Wilson (H.E.R). Wong is a mutant beast of a rhythm player and his tone is great, clean, classic Strat sound through some compression. Gabriella Wilson is just a great all-around player with a nice feel and an impressive array of weird and customized Strats.

I’m so glad someone else mentioned Melvin Taylor!! I think his number one is an Ibanez Semi Hollow, but he recorded most of the ‘Bang that bell’ album on Strats.

Love love LOVE Melvin Taylor and many folks don’t seem to have heard of him. I discovered him during the Napster Era as I was doing a deep dive looking for some rare or unreleased SRV stuff.. Taylor’s cover of ‘Dirty Pool came up in the search and that was history!

Funnily enough I listened to "come taste the band" yesterday for the first time. I was aware of who he was but there isn't much out there because he died so young.

Francis Dunnery of It Bites is underrated as is his replacement John Mitchell.
