.... if the American Standard Series is being discontinued? Maybe this is old news to some, but news to me.

My local shop guys told me yesterday the American Standard series was being discontinued and replaced with a new line. I guess it's about time, from a marketing perspective, to have a new line to create interest/sales. They said the new series was supposed to be something like the "American Professional" series.

Anybody know what the story is?

The American Deluxe was replaced with the American Elite....I think they're confused....

    @Chief101

I've heard of no plans to cancel the American Standard Strat....

The USA Professional series is a lower end model below the Standard....and it's actually discontinued....

Yes I'm sure in every country / region a certain high volume dealer carries them....Special Run....

Might be some left in the UK, doesn't appear to be many left in USA...

I genuinely thought they were a new production model, replacing the special.

I'll bet a bunch of amateurs tried to buy some of the "Professional" guitars and it just ruined the whole concept. :D

I have a question. What was the American Standard called in the 50's, 60's& 70's? Basically, just a Stratocaster. Keep it simple. Eliminate the confusion.

I've played one of those Professionals in Richtone a few months back. It had all the features of the standard plus a humbucker in the bridge. Iirc it also had an S1 switch to split the HB into a single coil. I quite liked it, but I didn't think £900 at the time - minus a case was worth it tbh, I still don't even with a gig bag.

Well the last major update of the American Standard was in 2008, with the refresh in 2012 when they added the CS pickups (and the tummy cut on the Teles). I guess it's time for a revised model - but hopefully they don't make it too close to the American Elites.

But I could see a revised American Standard getting the older-style contoured neck heel (which they are using on the MIM Deluxes and The Edge Sig Strat) and dropping the micro-tilt (not on the Elites or on The Edge Strat).

These are good recommendations, additionally I'd love to see:

    - lower G poles on the pickups for more balanced tone. Heck, even flat poles. [emoji33]

    - some better color options that used to be plentiful in the American Standard line. Jade Pearl was sweet.

    - the no-load pot doesn't seem very useful either, dump it and let the neck and middle share one tone pot while the other is connected to the bridge only. The middle and bridge pickups are plenty bright even connected to a tone pot.

That's about £400 less than the price of an Am std these days. Plus it has a 6 point bridge, IIRC.

If true, I would love to see a departure from the "Modern C" neck profile! Not the most comfortable for my style of playing.

Good point, although I think the price of the pro went up also in some stores. Shameful really when you consider they are old stock.

I don't think they were talking about the USA Pro that was a GC Exclusive a couple of years ago, they said their field rep said it was supposed to be a revised/upgraded version of the current Standard - similar to the way the Elite was an upgrade to the Deluxe.

He said they have ended the production on current Standards and have lowered the cost 20% to blow the remaining stock out.

Just repeating what I've been told.

If this is true, and I have no opinion either way, it's big news. Expect Fender to announce it at NAMM in January, not before.

The guys who told me about the phasing out of the American Standard Strat were able to get me one of the last 3TSB Shawbucker American Standard Strats w/ rosewood Fender had in stock.

$925 out the door. I can live with that.

Now I need someone to tell me how to post an actual pic (not link) from google photos.
