Hey guys, I just graduated boot camp on the 6th. Fresh out of Parris Island. Headed to camp Geiger tomorrow, then camp pendleton in january. I was wondering if any of my fellow strat lovers are out there. It'd be awesome to have some musicians around me.

My Mom lives in Oceanside which is the town that borders Camp Pendleton there is a great guitar shop that's in South Oceanside on Coast Blvd which is the main road that runs down the coast. The place is called Dusty's Guitars great selection of amps if your looking for one and of course strings and accessories. It's cool to wander out on the Oceanside Pier and have a burger and milkshake at the 50's styled Ruby's Diner on the end of the Pier. Lots of great little taco shops around to you'll be addicted to them in no time. I might be out that way in February if you want to grab a beer. Give me a shout if you need any more info about the area, Liam

A cool day trip from Pendleton is out the south gate into O'side, then out 78 to Escondido and visit the Carvin factory showroom.

There is a strat-talk member on Oceansde. Name is escaping me at the moment. jfernan?
Nungesser, you're making me homesick! I spent all my summers there as a kid. Remember the Arcade at the top of the pier?

Carvin is actually a little further south from Escondido. It's actually in the Rancho Bernardo area (less than a mile from Rancho Bernardo High School).

How far is that from New River? My Grandfather enlisted there in 1942. 3rd Battalion 1st Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force.

I can't recall more than that right now but I know there was a Carolina in there somewhere.

Ah ...so as in....not even remotely close!

Did a little research and its all clearer now.

I re-examined my Grandfathers war records while I was at it.....even more respect for him....which seems to happen each time I read them again.

    Congrats Bug10.

Best of luck man! Thanks for your service...BTW, when you graduated from PI did you happen to eat at Fat Patties after? I used to live in the Beaufort area for about a decade and I miss that place.

Our son just got Navy orders to San Diego (maybe an hour or so from Camp Pendleton) so I'm sure we will be visiting him down there when he is not deployed.

Congrats and thanks for serving Bug!

I'm about 30 minutes from there. I live just north and work just south of Pendleton. As a former Marine, I spent a lot of time there. My current job has me on base frequently still as well.

Shoot me a PM and I can give you the rundown of the area and what to expect over the next few years.

Then when nungesser gets here, we can all have a drink and jam at my place!

Unfortunately I'm only going there for my MOS school, but I should still be there for a few months. We're flying in tonight, then I'll check in tomorrow. Give me a little time to rest and then make sure my Alphas look good.

I'm about 45 minutes up the way from you in Orange County. If you're into Blues at all, there's a great group of guys that get together 2-3 times a month up here to play; the jams last 4 hours, and I'm sure they'd welcome you.
