Any site owners that have little interest in losing subscribers, and apparently see you and me as 'components' of various metrics can do without me.
Facebook is dying anyway. It’s social media for Gen X and older. Instagram has probably peaked Now as an influencer platform and the recent changes to what’s apps terms Of service is giving alternatives such as Signal an opening. The only part of Facebook I still find useful is the marketplace and the local community group page for our neighbourhood. Somewhat bizarrely my daughter’s and their wider social circles main coms platform is MS Teams as that’s what they use at school... none of them has much interest in any of the Facebook family of apps and are not much interested in social media generally. As I’m typing this my 9 year old and some of her friends are al logged into the same session of Minecraft and chatting away via a teams call... this is much more the norm that passive social media consumption.
If you're still using facebook you might as well have a sign around your neck that reads "CHUMP". Its volunteering yourself to the biggest data grab ever devised.
I'm still on FB and others ... like here. The trick I think is, I don't "fall in love" with anything. I use them like the tool they are designed to be. I have groups around my various activities. I've met people all over the world ... online and in person while traveling. These tools offer some fantastic benefits when used properly.
I have to ration this thread out for awhile since I have been laughing my ass off for the last 10 minutes. The ex wife said that I don't suffer fools easily so I guess that in a nutshell is my answer. Could someone please post a picture of their disgusting plate of food. I need to curb my voracious appetite. LOL Social experiment BAD. Happy memes good.
I never was in love with it. I have it just to keep in touch with a few old friends who live far away. Other than that, I interact with it as little as possible.
Special-interest user/owner forums like this, and my motorcycle/truck boards ARE my total "social media". Who needs anything else?
I started a new Facebook account and friended only musicians. It cut the BS immensely. And if anyone posts political crap, conspiracy theories or argumentive detritus I unfriend them or at least hide them. I like Facebook now -- all except for that self-promoting guy who kept messaging my about live sessions. I unfriended him.
I check it out every day, it is a good way to keep in touch with friends/family around the world and also the many special interest groups I belong to. I never see anyone's dinner or hear their political views.
