Well a quick search shows they are indeed a limited run of 79 strats from 2012, one on reverb for $3500US, one at truetone music was $2199, so maybe worth somewhere between those 2. I've never heard of one, Very nice guitar for sure,,

So Fender produced a unique design of COA for a non Custom Shop guitar? I thought they deliberately didn't do that for fear of causing confusion?

First thought of the COA was that it doesn’t look legit. There isn’t a lot around to confirm the legitimacy of the story… this sure is an odd one.

I don't like the obvious seams (wood joints)
Yes ,same for me ! And I don't understand the Limited Edition
and Certificate of Authenticity with the way it's built ! ?
Also the picture on the Certificate is of a Luthier that cares about his Craftmanship !

Thanks to everyone who has taken a look - I bought this new from a dealer, but long ago, obviously - I found another one sold fairly recently by a dealer who originally sold it & was reselling for the original owner, and the background they shared it that is part of a limited run that was apparently offered to Fender's highest volume dealers. Ash bodies taken outside the shop and burned, matched to the walnut neck (have never seen another walnut neck). The COA is legit - looks just like the others I've seen of different #. The serial # search on Fender shows it as a "Burnt" American Design, but the "click for details" doesn't have any details available unfortunately. It is a very cool guitar that plays well and has great tone with the custom shop pickups they installed.

New one on me. Any more info re the wood source or whatever else lead to the limited run?
Per the dealer who recently sold one, Fender was experimenting with different finishes, and this was one they did for a limited run - burnt Ash finished with satin poly (I assume, since built in CA) - each one looks different, obviously due to wood grain differences. When I bought it, some guy had collected about half of the ones in existence - don't know how many he ended up with.
