I've got a question for anyone who has set up a Hagstrom Tremar Viking Deluxe, relating to that thin composite neck. Thanks

There should be no difference from any basic setup.

That thin neck has my setup guy a bit spooked. He's been setting up guitars for years, owns about 30-40, but never set up a Hagstrom. Here's a cut and paste of his question:

I need to adjust truss rod on a Hagstrom to remove approximately 3/16” relief.

    1. With the way that the Hagstrom neck is made with the rail system, as thin as it is with minimal “meat” around the rail, is it safe to adjust this amount with 1/8-1/4 turn on truss rod at a time?

    2. I read that Hagstrom also has an “alloy” truss rod. Does this mean aluminum and will it withstand the amount of tension needed to remove 3/16” relief?

Really worried about cracking the neck and/or popping the fingerboard loose when pulling out this much relief. Any advice?

I'm pretty sure the people at Hagstrom know how to build guitars properly. I doubt that they would make a neck adjustable if it could not be adjusted.

Make very small adjustments and wait.

I owned one of those, great guitar. There is no difference between setting up a Viking and setting up any other electric guitar. The neck can take it and so can the truss rod.

Thanks, he was just spooked because there is so little "meat" as he put it around the rail, as thin as it is, he didn't want to risk cracking or delaminating anything. He always does a very small increment, lets it sit overnight, then does the next, etc.

i have done a fret level and full setup on a viking and unless there is a problem we are unaware of it needs no special treatment.
