Are people still rocking vintage amps?

I used to own vintage amps, Marshall JCM800, Fender silverface, a blackface too.
Now I use modern made amps that frankly sound better than the vintage ones.

I've only ever owned (and still own) two amps...
A 1963 AC30 treble I bought for £50 in 1987 from my former guitar teacher who just wanted it out of the house that I got back into shape a couple of years ago after it had been left unplayed by me during the years we lived in a Copenhagen apartment.
    And a 1979 Jazz Chorus.
Definitely overkill to my needs - but I just go through the I/O when I don't want to disturb the wife.

The Lab series was the secret to Ty Tabor's tone from the first 4 King's X albums - it was also BB King's amp of choice...

Had two other '70s cabs, but had to cull the herd due to a cross-country move. :(

OMG I have one of those grousing in the back room, MIJ and as heavy as you don't want to imagine. Huge transformers. Loud as all get out and clean to the end, interesting freq shift buttons and a gain knob that adds a little breakup when wanted.

Cool you have one, I haven't seen many around and it's difficult to find much info on these. I agree with your description, super loud - weighs a ton. It's a fun amp. I think it sounds great.

I have a 1956 Fender Harvard that looks nearly new. Cleanest one I've ever seen. I had to replace the filter caps, that selenium rectifier (left in chassis), and put in 3-prong cord, but I believe in doing what it takes to keep vintage amps playable. I kept all the original parts in case someone wants to make it a collector. Like all tweeds it sounds awesome with volume in the 3 - 4 range.

I love vintage amps. Love seeing all of yours. That '57 is beautiful. I have a '64 SR and I absolutely love it. I'd like to get an old Marshall some day...

Forgot to answer the main question, I have zero problem taking it out of the house. It's made to play, and I love seeing people's face when they hear it and go wow...

Yeah, I'm a King's X fan. The guy I got it from was a King's X fan too. Apparently he (Ty) ran the Lab preamp out to a tube power section. When I saw them he was using some kind of Mesa.
Guess who still doesn't sound like Ty Tabor or BB King!

Vintage is actually a term used for defining wine.

I still play through an original blackface Pro Reverb, but mostly at home. I stopped taking it to gigs after another amp got the grill cloth ripped. I've got a 66 Bandmaster in storage, in excellent condition, but haven't used it in years.

    Yeah, I know.
That's why I asked the question, to see how it was being defined.
    vintage : vint =wine, age=age...

First old/used clothes stores became vintage clothing shops and then everything old became vintage.
But everyone seems to have their own definition, so I ask.

To me it still means what year the wine was made.

The evolution of the English language in America I guess

That sounds amazing. It would be difficult to find a 65 year old amp in great condition. I have a more effecient speaker in mine, so it can be cranked without farting out.
