Really? Are you YOU? I just read an article about a white dude from Jersey posing as an immigrant woman of color just to stir up crap on the internet. This thread is NOT ABOUT THAT so DO NOT go down that road. The story got me thinking though, and what I'm asking is do you represent yourself here as you do in "real life"? I've met a few people in person from guitar sites and I don't think anyone has been surprised by me in person. I've posted enough about my personal life, pics of me, videos of me playing guitar etc. I don't feel the need to hide much.

I read that the odds are 50/50 that we are all living in a simulation anyway so does it really matter if we are who we think we are or portray ourselves to be?

Well, really we are all nobody. We are just what we perceive ourselves to be, and what others perceive us as, but in "reality" we are neither one of those. Most people don't know themselves at all.

There are two realities. The actual reality, and the reality your mind creates depending on the experiences and perspective you have.

Basically we're all living in our own little world, so none of it really matters until it does. Then it doesn't matter at all.

my wife talks about the Enneagram test a lot.. which all it really is, is an ego test.

What you think about yourself, what other people think you are like, and what you actually are, can be wildly different.

Any self-administered personality test is automatically flawed. Very few people really have that perfect sense of self, and even if they did, 10 different people will see them 10 different ways.

So, I am what I choose to portray myself to be, and I think that's the case for everyone who's coherent enough to do that.

I'm myself here. But as far as feeling like I have nothing to hide, I'm not worried about anything, but I don't necessarily feel like the world needs to know all about me or my life either. Some people might abuse the information they find about people online, so when posting on a public online social medium or forum like this, sometimes the less you post about yourself, the better.

I'm for real. For 20 years I was the guy who got to play with amazing artists because I was good (brilliant) but unknown and singularly without ego, therefore I was frequently cheap or free at the point of demand. I now live in a more or less derelict mansion in the middle of nowhere which I can't afford to restore. I'm 41 next month and don't regret a thing. :thumb:
