So I have a 62 reissue strat in sonic blue with rosewood fingerboard and am now looking at getting something like a '50s stratocaster with a maple neck. What are some of your favorite colors from the late '50s era that look great with a maple neck? I realize that earlier in the '50s there were limited color options, but think they started introducing the custom colors by the late '50s. I was thinking surf green with maple, or maybe fiesta red, but look forward to what others think. My main thing is to get something different than the sonic blue on my 60s strat. Thanks for your thoughts!

I think the only colors they had in the '50s were sunburst, blonde/Mary Kaye, black, and a red that was sort of like Dakota.

Other colors on "50s" Strats are revisionist history.

I would personally be going Fiesta Red – as it would offer you a starker contrast, in terms of colours. Sonic Blue to my eyes – is not a million miles away from Surf Green... obviously they're quite different (and both beautiful...) – but the red and the blue would make a nicer pair, red and blue are complimentary colours – they're almost opposites in fact, but not quite.... Green on the other hand – is right beside blue on the spectrum... which is fantastic if you like blues and greens!! But if you want something quite different – Fiesta Red is your friend!

Or as above – the two-tone Sunburst, you certainly wouldn't go wrong with that either. In fact... now that I've written that – I'm thinking... if I already owned a coloured guitar – and I was buying another, for me personally – I would be going for the Sunburst! Sunburst is TOO classic a finish to not own – in my very honest opinion, though... whatever you go for – I am sure will be cool! :) !

Two-tone sunburst and maple neck. That’s just the perfect combo.

Fiesta red for sure, with a dark rosewood fretboard.

    They're both beautiful colors.
Surf green is more intense than sonic blue IMO but as @J4ME5 pointed out, it's still somewhat similar to blue.
Fiesta red is very nice, how about Aztec gold?

For me, Ocean Turquoise with a fairly green mint pickguard & a maple neck is a tough look to beat.
    image.jpeg
Typically, you see the 50's with maple & single ply white guard or the 60's with rosewood & subtle mint. However, I've put those Chinese mint guards that are typically too green for other colours & they look great on this color.

I just ordered one of Amazon & will post when it's on my Ocean Turqoise American Standard.

Here's an old MIJ Squier I used to have. The flash kind of killed all traces of green.

This is a second MIJ Squier I had closer to the color as the eye sees it.

A fine instrument and the only correct answer.

Although Inca Silver is very close.
