Well. I was lucky enough to have stashed $3k away and went hunting for a ‘50’s Strat and ended up with a used Masterbuilt Metallic Green ‘56 by Todd Krause. Even had pick ups wound by the famous old bat, forgot her name. I subsequently sold it, trying to get down to one guitar but, of course, really miss it. The prices look to have skyrocketed but I’m not sure sellers aren’t open to lowball offers. These are hard times and folks have unique reasons for needing cash, I bet you can find a great one in any color you want for just a little more than top of the line factory model.

They had a photo of a Jazzmaster, in Lake Placid Blue, w/gold hardware, in a ‘60s catalog, that I always coveted. My friend in CT, points out that Fender charges you more, not to put a finish on the guitar. I suppose that’s because they use ash on unfinished guitars.

Can't go wrong with fiesta red. I had a two tone sunburst that had some seriously beautiful grain in it. Wish I still had it.

WickB, is that a separate control panel for the pots & switch? Possible the one thing Leo sould have done - I think one of the early Fender guys had something similar, Don Randall or Forrest White, maybe.

    The
The 58’ three tone sunburst is the best! That year is the best version of the three color sunburst and it is my favorite over all the custom colors from the 50’s.

A couple of cool combinations are:

the Mary Kaye ‘50’s strat. Translucent blonde, maple neck, gold hardware.

typical two tone sunburst, black pickguard and maple neck. Fender did offer black pickguards in the ‘50’s.

there is a youtube video of the Chantays performing with custom fenders with black pickguards on sunburst.

Not to plug my own brand, but olsonoriginals.org has awesome sonic blue, surf green, and natural wood. Theyre finished with nitrocellulose, and use colors from the 50s so they definitely look and feel vintage.
