I am building a partscaster, and looking for a site I can buy an inexpensive but good quality body. I’ve checked out Allen Eden and XGP, but I’m not sure about quality. Was also considering buying a Squier CV body. Thoughts?

I've never used a GFS XGP Strat body but I've built several Teles using them. The quality is quite good and I've had no issues with other parts fitting them well.

Otherwise just shop Ebay or Reverb. You should find plenty of them there.

if you do the finish work yourself, the canadian company Tone Bomb has excellent unfinished bodies at pretty good prices...

A used body usually just needs reassembly. Simple.

Putting a finish on is like a new career path.

I've had 3 GFS XGP white blonde, hardtail Strat bodies, trying to get a good one.

    1. Finish chip that was clear coated.
    2. Hideously mismatched grain on woods of different colors under the transparent finish.
    3. Neck pocket not in Fender dimensions.

    Their "best" bodies.

There’s a shop in St. Paul, MN called Supra-Tone (supra-tone.com), they sell on Reverb. Maybe you can order direct from their site, too, like with Stratosphere. Says they are a company of veterans, everything made there in MN. Strat bodies look to be roughly $150 shipped (give or take with taxes).

Warmoth are a goog quality option to look at. They sell unfinished bodies and are available in various types of wood.

I've had really good luck with bodies from Allen-Eden! I bought one some time ago because they were offering "hardtail", pre-finished, Strat bodies. It was all alder construction and routed very precisely for neck pocket and control section. The finish was superb. I had to do some hole drilling for the string ferrules and bridge (which require the right tools and some skill) and do some deburring of router edges, etc., but the guitar turned out nearly perfect in every respect. Of course, I used a Fender neck, an upgraded bridge, and some high-end controls and pickups. Since that success, I have built 4 more Strat type guitars using those bodies in differing colors and type (hardtail/Tremolo) and all have been very good. And the best part, they sell for about $135 on Reverb. No, they are not custom-shop quality, but they are a real value for a builder base!!

You don’t mention budget. You can buy a fully finished “replacement” body direct from Fender for $250. Made in Mexico, they have the traditional SSS routed body or the Deluxe with HSH routs. There are several colors, typically white, black, candy red and sunburst available. Guaranteed to fit all the parts.

Yeah, as long as they offer the paulownia bodies I’ll be sticking with Eden Allen. I The GFS guitars I have assembled required MUCH reworking the body to work.

I agree; the quality is great and the prices are less than Warmoth.
