In my opinion Custom shop 69 pickups,
They are perfect in every way and sound like Hendrix. And Fat 50s, has a strat sound as a strat should!

    What are your top picks?

I'm not a complete corksniffer, but I like the 'mystique' of pre-CBS pups. From guitar to guitar they sounded different because they were hand scatter-wound.

I can't afford pre-CBS but you're asking for the best. Who's going to argue pre-CBS isn't the best?

The best Strat pickups are the ones in my Strats. You can't have them.

The CS 69s do seem to be the most popular choice in most topics from what i have seen, would love to try some. I reckon the 65s are next favorite.

I am biased, but my choices are pretty unique. I like the Classic Stack Plus, and the Five Two.

What did David, Eric, Jimi, Buddy, yadayada use back in the 60's/70's?

I'll take whatever they had and be happy.

hi :) . Did you mean, that rather than a sole/ 1 best pickup- That different styles can have plusses and considerations for genre according to player's preferences?

I have a limited collection but here goes:
Tone Rider's in CV 60: Super nice vintage twang/bite/quack.
Fat 50's with center poles adjusted: Bright and clear with fairly powerful kick. Not a particularly vintage tone but can close.

I really like both pups and I'm NOT saying they are "the best".................

caveat on the Fat 50's is that I didn't care for them before the offending poles were adjusted down.

The ones that came in my EJ Signature Strat. Hands down the best set I've ever played and very well balanced for each position.
