My amazing "Tele" has 3 hum buckers and a five way switch.... but it started life as a Squire Vintage Modified, made in India, and I would play hell finding an expensive Tele I liked better.

I did all of my country gigs with this guitar in the 90s:

    299783-fd2cc410a5c680d072fd747104ba2a5d.jpg

ASAT Classic prototype bought at G&L.

Here's the things that are different from a Fender Tele:

The bridge. Six piece instead of three.
The pickups. The MFD pickups are ceramic and very hot. Mine had a Schaller humbucker in the neck. Dale told me Leo was po'd after it was built. He only wanted to use his designs.
The neck. Very flat radius, 22 frets.

Dale also told me that Leo was equally pissed about having to build guitars that were reminiscent of the Strat and Tele. He didn't like going backwards, and he thought the original ASAT design was the natural progression of his earlier work. Those early ASAT's are great guitars.

Nope sold it. It was built for Keith Richards. After Keith thanked Leo in his RRHOF acceptance speech in 89...G&L wanted him to try one of the new ones. Mine was one of 4 they built.

    Two generic answers.
1). Mexican (value for price point)
    2) Build your own (parts from any number of sources).

Best value? I would say is the AO telly.
Close to cs, without the cs price.
Nice wiring ,cap, USA made switch, good pots, cloth wire, a sane radius, and frets, nitro finish and a great case.
I bet fenders profit level on this one is not as good as some? Speculation...
I have an exceptional 6.8 pounder I cannot put down.
Not the cheapest, but I would say a great value In a very classic timeless tele...
    Also supports USA labor!
