There's a road worn (real road worn, not relic) modern era Blues Deluxe for sale for short money. Very short. $250.

Should I grab it? Allegedly has had the tubes replaced but comes with the originals. If it makes any sounds at all, it's worth $250, right? Looks like a no-risk buy to me.

BUT, I don't know a lot about tube amps past the basics. Are there things I should check before purchase?

You should have been posting a NAD post instead of this one

Be assured, I contacted the guy before I posted :)

Have to follow up with him early in the morning. If past experience is any indicator, someone who lives closer than me will beat me to his house. But we'll see.

Great price.. About what I paid for my HRD five or so years ago.

Yeah, I'm thinking the guy bought it years ago and hasn't kept up with the latest price changes. But, it is VERY road worn appearance wise. Not that I care. Could be a feature.

The dirty deed is done and the dirty amp has been acquired.

I'll do a NAD tomorrow after a little cleanup and a tetanus shot for me.

PS. This freaking thing is loud. Holy shoot, I thought I was plugged into a Twin. Maybe it's been too long since I was plugged into a Twin but I was shaking the windows on 3. Maybe I need better windows?

    Congrats :thumb:

There's an easy fix to tame the beast a bit. Just replace the V1 tube with a 12AY7 and it will give you a wider sweep of the volume knob. I as well as tons of others have done this, works great and does not lose the amps characteristics. You loose just a bit of gain on the gain channel but not a big deal, this amp isn't designed for that anyhow, can always use a pedal for that.

Looking at the back of the amp, take the panel off and V1 is the tube in the extreme far right, the first tube in order.

I'll see what's in there and likely upgrade. Should I be able to produce any grit with the drive up on 12 and the master way down at 1? I'm not getting any... plenty of volume available, but it's clean. Unfortunately I can't run it up to rockin' levels where I am to test at realistic volumes.

It’s designed to get some grit but not a lot and to get there it will be loud as heck. Give it a shot though, put the drive on 12 and adjust the master as much as you can.

Overall though you have a very nice amp that is pedal friendly, you did very well.

I love mine. I did the 12ay7 swap and never use the gain channel, I just don't think it sounds good. I see this amp as a perfect platform for pedals.
