Oh, that said, when we gig, I bust out the Marshall!
I swapped the Celestian 70/80 in my previous YCV40 with a Vintage 30. Also swapped the preamp tube for a AT7? Made a nice difference in tone. Not earth shattering but noticeably nicer. The tube was to stop it from breaking up so quick.
Eminence Cannabis Rex.
There is really no other reason to consider any other speaker. That one is perfect for the Blues Jr. The CRex tames the shrill highs but still has a nice treble.
I agree, but he may have paid $480 for that amp...you never know. I paid $275 for my 1st gen greee-board BJ in '97, and put a $60 Jensen C12N in it with good results, selling the original Eminence for $25.
There are only two viable inside walls. No top inside wall, you'd have to remove or cover the reverb tank on the bottom and no use covering the speaker baffle board on an open back cab.
I have an old Weber 50 watt mini-MASS just for such applications.
The 12AT7 is not a good preamp tube for V1. It's a workhorse tube better suited as a PI, or reverb or effects loop driver/receiver. Try a 5751 for later breakup with better tone in V1 than a 12AT7.
I can’t believe that the majority of replies here espouse the “favorites” of the responders.
That won’t help the OP.
Here are a couple of links that both describe the speakers along with sound clips.
Do your homework. That thing called the Internet is the greatest library there is.
There are a few other speaker manufacturers- do a little digging
Sold it last February. The problem now belongs to some guy whose name I can't remember.
I had a BJr III and put a cannibis Rex in it. Was a major step up in tone
These are good but IMO comparing clips of this one Scumbacks etc etc the Chinese Greenback was the best IMO compared to an original.
I recomend the Chinese Greenback RI Celestion. They run for 135 and are well worth the money.
Put one in there and it would solve many of the problems.
Blues Juniors arent bad but they just need a better speaker in there to make them really shine.
Do yourself a favor and buy a Celestion Greenback Reissue for 135$. Sure sounds just as good and IMO better than the Heritage made in england for almost half the price.
Dont take my word for it....
Hear for yourself....
Other basic tips...dont go down the rabit whole of putting 12YU5 tube in V1 or a Jan NOS vintage tube in V2 with wopty wopty woop.
Just upgrade the speaker. Upgrade the tubes to standard 12ax7 but something like TungSol or Sovtek 12AX7 LPS...JJ El84. Keep it simple.
But definately put in a Greenback.
It's the Celestion A-type speaker. It gets good reviews, but the proof is in the listening of each player. Find a new BJ IV at a store in your area, take your BJ III there, and play/compare them .
New guy isn’t very nice!
What if it worked....
Very few of us here truly need any of this...
Need is spelled(Want)or(desire)or(shopping compulsion)
3 years is new?
No but looking at the number of posts it would be easy to think so.
