I saw a few bands there myself, the most memorable for me being Al Stewart. I used to get a pretty darn good deep dish pizza at Union Jacks. But I haven't been back to Broad Ripple since the late 80's. Looking at it online now it's almost unrecognizable. Things change I reckon, but that feels kinda sad.

Something else I'm recalling about Memorial Day and the race weekend, back in the 60's and early 70's. Lots of flags on display. Pretty much everyone in our neighborhood in Indy hung out a flag in those days. Of course lots of folks had relatives who fell in the wars, but as a kid I didn't really think about that. Race weekend in Indy just seemed like a colorful and exciting time.

Mr. Bobby Unser, there will never be another. Rest in peace, and thanks for all you gave us.
