I have the Katana 50 Mk II. Love that amp. I use my pedal board on the clean channel. Like what I hear. Did change the speaker to a WGS Raptor. More volume and fuller sound to my ears.

I play all strats through my Katana Artist and love it. It does take some tweaking with the Tone Studio software and I started with this: https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/katana-master-eq-settings.1876110/

What I did however was keep the low mid frequency on the Global EQ to 500hz and the high mid freqency to 6.30 kHz and set everything else to zero, and that really livened up the amp and it sounds more tube-like with a good balance of bass and treble, without either being to the extreme. The above suggested settings from the link seemed to make it too dull with the low mids increased and the high mids slightly cut. Experiment and see what you like, then you'll have an amp you're more than satisfied with.

I have owned a Katana Artist for almost a year now and I really like it.

Previously I owned a Fender Mustang 3 version 1 100 watt combo for like 8 years and decided to ditch it for the Katana.

The Mustang had 100 presets and I used at most 4-5.

The Katana Artis speaker is amazing. It has a brilliant sound. The Waza Craft speaker is worth doing some research on.

The Katana is extremely easy to work with to get the sounds you want.

I never invested in the GA-FC Foot switch and so a couple of weeks ago decided I would finally buy the foot switch so I could a) unlock everything the amp and the tone studio offers and b) finally have say access to my favourite pre-set channels.

A guy was selling a Katana Artist Mark 11 with the foot switch so I pulled the trigger on this and it arrived yesterday.

I unboxed it and set it up and downloaded the latest software and got into it.

Ive programmed each of the 8 channels with my choice of patches and its working and functioning perfectly.

I checked the web to see if I could find anyone who is specialising in Katana patches and found 2 guys already who offer amazing Katana patches.

    https://www.kfirochaion.com/gear/bosskatana/

    https://jucaneryguitar.com/product-category/katana-mk-ii/

Of course you can set up your own patches using the Boss Tone Studio but these guys are experts and know what they are doing so this will save you a lot of time and energy.

Finally the price is a deal closer for me.

If I could afford it I would get my hands on a Kemper but a pre-loved Katana Artist in either the original or the Mark 11 versions is extremely cost effective.

I would highly recommend this amp to anyone.

    Cheers from Sydney.

I really liked my Katanas (I've had two, sold the 1st one, a MK1 2x12 100, so I could get a Mk2 1x12 100). I'd definitely get the 2x12 Mk2 (If you don't go for the Artist model) for your purposes if you can spare the extra bucks, it just has more "oomph" than a 1x12, even at lower volume levels. I actually regretted selling the first one after a couple of months with the Mk2 1x12, not that it was a bad amp. It just lacks a bit of beef compared to the double speaker setup.

Edit: Having read back and the post about the 100W head, where you can vary your cabs, if that's an option, I'd go for that instead of the 2x12 combo. But if you just want combo, definitely go 2x12 over 1x12 if you can.

I have a 100 watt MK II. I'm just not bonding with it like I thought I would. It's a great sounding amp and all, but I'm an old school guy, I don't like stuff that you have to download, program, etc. Tried to update the software, computer won't open the file...I just don't want to deal with it. I'm trying to work a deal with my local Music Go Round for a trade on a red Dillion Mosrite copy they have. If the deal is right I may do it.

I'm looking into a new amp. What's the difference from the MkII and the Artist? Thanks.

Definitely an issue for some. I had no problems with updating firmware, etc, but if the OP does, it may not be the right choice for them. Good job pointing that out!

The MKII Artist has the higher end "Waza" speaker, (it's a 1x12 and 100W, but the speaker definitely has more of that "oomph" I mentioned earlier compared to the vanilla 1x12), and a few additional functionalities to it compared to the vanilla MkII. I honestly suggest going to the Boss website and comparing the two. There are plenty of youtube vids out there that you can watch to get some idea as well.

Having said all that, do you play live at all or is this just for home use? It took me a while to realize you weren't the OP lol

The Katana Artist is also available in the Mark 11 version.

Thee Mark 11 offers a couple of extra things that the original version doesn't have.

Probably best to search the web to see the differences.

That was my first impression as well. I gave up on it until I found a deal I couldn’t pass up on craigslist. Once I dove into the app, it changed my mind within minutes.

From the panel on the amp alone, there were no sounds I liked. I didn’t understand what the hype was about. Thought it sounded like ass, to be honest.

the key was setting the OD/boost and compression parameters, for me. Which you can’t really do on the amp knobs.

Once you do set your presets, you can tweak a lot of stuff from the knobs. I haven’t hooked it up to the computer in over a year, and I play it daily.

Yes, I play out when possible. And I'd like to start recording parts for friends that write. Might be a good tool for that.

On that note, the Katana PC driver for USB can be used for audio input into your DAW.

I have not yet figured out what the Katana can do via MIDI but it is there.

I have the line out from the Kat going into my FocusRite. I did that setup before I discovered that the DAW saw it.
