Exactly my point. Even today's titanium face 5 woods aren't going to forgive you much more than old school wooden 5 woods would left/right wise, but the barn door faced drivers most definitely will. Reminds me of the Tigershark 7 wood my grandmother had when I was a kid that I'd take to the range. Left or right of center it was like hitting the ball with the side of a yardstick.

The woods are still filling up with balls hooking and slicing from oversized driver heads . If you hit the ball with the face open you are sill going to slice it same with closed you are going to hook it . The sweet spot is bigger and if you catch it on the toe or the heel you won’t lose as much distance as you did with the old persimmon wood heads that I started out with but it can’t correct swing path .....

It's the shaft length that makes the 3/5 wood more accurate for most players, not the head size.

Stick a 3-wood shaft in your driver and even grip down on it and most players will hit straighter and get more distance.

last time I went I was hitting a lot of grounders but at least they were straight. I should probably go to the range tomorrow and whack a bucket of balls.

Hey Ax, do you play from the whites tees , tips or senior. I’m kicking around the idea of moving up.

81 is excellent!!! My last 2 nine hole rounds were both under 40 (39 and 38), but they were the best rounds this year.

I've just not been playing enough, and I have to play consistently to get consistent.

Oh yeah, and those were league rounds, where we get a clubs length improvement and pick up any putts within the grip. That probably improves my scores by about 5 strokes in 9 holes.

Been a few years for me. Got a nice set in my brother’s garage in the Bay Area, but not up here in NS. Use to love going to the range about an hour before tee time and hitting a bucket. Would take at least a few good swings with each driver and iron, reminding myself of their feel, and my range with each club. Routinely if I did this, it would knock between 8 or 10 strokes off my game. Plus it was fun and felt good too.

    Enjoy those new clubs Chont!

i play the senior tees now . When it got to I had to start hitting hitting fairway woods to reach the longer par 4’s I knew it was time to move up to the senior tees .

Nope ! Time gets us all . I catch a little flack from nephews when I play with them . They say it isn’t fair I get to play from up there and I say it’s not fair when I hit my best drive from back there with you guys and you blast it 30 yards past me ......

I know exactly what you’re saying, my younger brother is 63 . And won’t give up the stiff shaft, but I have a feeling that will change shortly.

I gave them up in my 50’s ..... I play regular graphite shafts now in my irons . I still hit it out there pretty good for an old guy but I can’t keep up with the young bucks . I clean their clocks from 100yds in though lol !

Regular shafts and thin grips for me. The trick with the grips is to have a light grasp for my swing until I am down on the ball and making contact. Then the grip firms up with a good feel while hitting the ball. If my grip is too firm on my backswing or as I start my downswing I can lose control and miss hit in variety of ways. Gotta play more. I miss it.
