I have a few hours and I really need to flesh out about half a dozen songs that are just some bones at this point. Super stressed about many different things, tired, burned out I have not worked on the songs for about a week. Can I do it on command?? Can I just try to work the process that I have and get stuff done or will it take me waiting until I feel more like it?? We shall.
good luck, I wish you well I am fortunate to have a lyricist so my music writing part is pretty easy.
Songwriting can be a gift, a product of craft, or a bit of both. Can I do it on command? Sure. So can you.
Did not get it all done, but did get some stuff done. Once I managed to corral my monkey mind I was able to do some work.
I need a dedicated working space where I can sit in the middle of all my gear and have a writing space and this and that and all nicely wired so I don't get tangled up.
This is working kind of well. I have 6 tunes and they range from all the way written to just a lyric hook and some basic building blocks. Instead of doing one song start to finish I am doing functions on all 6. So, I played what I had and figured out what the tempo should be for each of them. Then I fleshed out the changes for each. Then I put on the metronome and the stop watch and did some arranging of parts. Because of all those easy steps, I know pretty much know the songs and have a good idea how much lyric writing I will need to do for each.
True. What a lovely feeling when it just flows ahhh... In my case, its usually 70% of inspirational shock from above (lol, say verse and chorus melody and chords, 1st verse and chorus lyrics), and the rest is just squeezing the thing till I think its worth it (including the bridge which is always a pita for me).
