Again this week we're keeping things as easy as possible. What we need here is musical maturity - the ability to phrase lyrically and not overplay. If you get writer's block just think George Harrison on the refrain and take it from there. Descending 6ths should fit the turnaround like a glove. If you get lost just listen to the piano, I played all the roots for you so you should be able to pick them out easily.

Nice track. I was able to slip in a quick take on this, which seems to require more a state of mind than a lot of thinking, at least for me. Here it is:

All is calm finally. We got off to a rough start today. Nap time soon. I started searching for a picture of an old man with a guitar, then I realized I'm an old man with a guitar, so...

that was a fun track to play. thank you kindly, Chuck! i like that it was enjoyable to listen to while being as straightforward as a covered bridge. gave me an easy place to work out things for the first time!

first thing i thought was "guess i better figure out what 'sixths' really means" (i mean, i know it's an interval, but i mean how used and all that) so i brushed up on the topic listening to few minutes of a guy named dave talk about music that goes good with ribs and corn biscuits or something like that and that was pretty interesting... (but for me he's got a backwards way of teaching practically had to watch it in reverse...)

in any case, here's a take after learnin me up some sixths.... ]

here's the link to Dave's country lick using sixths where i got my tutoring

Kevin: a very reflective take... it did seem you were feeling your way rather than thinking it - really nice to listen to...

Mark: quite an enjoyable ride... you built it nicely to a very enjoyable destination... the effect you used was odd to me at first but became more and more trustworthy as the track went on - like Ford Prefect...

this is giving me such a 2004 vibe, i as on my way to an oil spill in the aleutians when i heard about the boxing day tsunami... don't know why this is making me flash on the combined imagery of snow covered mountain peak islands of the north pacific/bering sea and the lives lost across indonesia.... but suffice to say that evoking those memories is in its own way striking a blow for the legitimacy of human feelings.

Roger, your tone is awesome and the "old licks" sure hit the spot. A pleasure to listen to as usual. Here is my take. I was missing the mando so this has lots of trading back and forth.

two takes that are both haunting and mysterious and as completely different as they can be! The varieties of Experience!

i liked the ragged ghost story of your mando/guitar duet Chipper... a very spooked vibe... finger bones for tuners, hair for strings sort of feeling.

Raimonds you bring the epic to everything... a soaring melancholy! not mature, distinguished!

very nice Mark... a really nice feeling throughout... great narrative feeling... like your telling the story of how the house burned down from a drunkenly neglected burning cigarette...
