That is pretty much what one daughter told me. Practice.
At my ripe old age I've never tried them. Probably because I rarely eat anything that chopsticks are appropriate for.
But if came down to chopsticks or starvation I could make them work
Probably the easiest eating utensil to make in an emergency. Having said that I can barely use them and I used to work at a firm that was 95% Korean (Korean owned) and used to go out for Korena food at least once a week. And yeah, the metal ones are for pros only.

Can't use chopsticks but did tie a knot in a long cherry stem once with my tongue, my date at the time proposed to me.

I remember going to lunch with the wife near her work, years ago. The first surprise, my soup arrived in a tureen. Second, there was an egg and chicken leg in it. Third surprise was how rich and delicious the broth was! Oh yeah, I ate it with chopsticks.
