So I use to love hunting for deals on cool guitars but since the turn of the decade it seems there's no avoiding sales tax for online purchases.

I recently purchased a couple guitars from an online retailer who never use to charge tax but now they do. And I'm sure y'all know eBay and Reverb do as well. Only places I know of that are still immune to sales tax are Craigs and FB Marketplace and it wouldn't surprise me if the powers that be somehow figure out a way to tax those as well.

This really has me re-thinking the whole online transaction process and is likely to cause a major reduction in my GAS.

Anyone else think online sales tax will be an effective suppressant for combatting GAS?

GAS? I have it under control. SalesTax... not even a dent in deterent. This year I will acquire just one guitar. A good acounstic. Probably a Taylor. That alone will blow my budget.

That's funny. I almost bought a used amp today on line, but when I added tax and shipping... held off, for now. :sneaky:

I try to mentally ignore sales tax, and it’s effect on the bottom line cost of something I’m gassing for. It is a mechanism to justify my taste for expensive gear items. My wife loves reminding me. “Yeah, but with tax, your spending X dollars”.

I’ve been gassing for a BF PRRI, with the celestion 12/65 for about two months now. I’m not sure how to pull that off, yet.

Whenever I feel GAS coming on, I play one of the guitars I have. This makes me realize that a) it will still be me playing a new guitar, and b) the guitars I have are just about perfect.

It sure has encouraged me to buy local, support my own community and then I can try things out before I buy. Used to try things out at the local shops then order it on line to save money. But now the playing field has been pretty much leveled.

My gear I want is no longer guitars. Amps and a couple of pedal. For the church band I really do need a good reverb pedal and a better volume pedal. I need another amp like a need a whole in my head. I just really really want more good amps more than anything.
I need to maybe look for the pedals used.

I have four good guitars. Rotating them about a month at a time makes it almost seem like I get a new guitar every four months.

My GAS has shifted to amps

I’ve built a really nice collection of electric guitars, but I’m plugging them into cheap-ish amps.

So now, I’m gassing for four different amps. It means I my not buy another guitar for 3 or 4 years.

First up is a JTM45. The sales tax on that is going to bite. I was considering getting a Ceriatone clone to avoid the tax...but you know, I really think I’ll just bite the bullet and buy the Marshall and pay the tax.

But the tax is a drag.

My guitar GAS dropped sharply when I had a custom neck made to my specs. I'm not sure I can ever buy off the rack again. It's that much better.

Online sales tax definitely reduced my gas also it seams everything keeps getting more expensive and my wages aint going up so time for me to get a 2nd job. I don't think I will be buying anything till next year sometime.

Nope, speaking just for myself, the price of something doesn't really impede the GAS.
