I finally decided to splash out and buy an original pre cbs strat.

I am considering this 1959 strat in the link below. What do you guys think of it? I think it looks great and to my knowledge original.

If it all adds up, I say go for it. Yes, I'm being generous with other people's money BUT I also paid through the nose for a vintage Strat 6 years ago and never looked back It was the best guitar purchase. I'm happier with my vintage Strat than I would be with any nice car (of course l play a little better than I drive) and it cured my

Thats a good deal too at the moment imo for a 100% stock early 59’, very nice. Good weight. Original case is a big + too; the gold interior, tweeds are very scarce in that condition ($2.5k+ USD to source if u can find one in that kind of shape). Looks good based on photos. My only comment is (maybe it’s the lighting) but in the photo below, the board looks like there may be overspray (typical if there was a refret done)… but the ad does say “all original”, so of course if there is a refret/overspray that’s not disclosed, though it doesn’t hurt the value alot at all, I’d still be asking for gut shots to make sure everything else checks out). The frets do look a bit low in the photo as well (though picture quality is not great), so if it was a refret, it must’ve been a long time ago. Good luck!

Thank you for the inputs guys. Nice to have more or less confirmed that this is a nice guitar. I think the seller is also very reliable.

Its very lucky that the guitar is located just 6km from my home, so I am going to check it out this thursday. Cant wait

The frets are supposedly original, but who really knows with a guitar this old.

Something to think about...

I've had the opportunity to try a number of different vintage guitars and one aspect that can be a deal breaker for me is neck shape/ depth. Even a killer sounding guitar with a neck I don't care for has to go.

mid 58-59 necks can be rather thin. I don't personally care for a maple neck that is thin. I prefer a thicker maple neck. Oddly enough, I prefer a thinner rosewood fretboard neck. So that same neck thickness on a maple neck might not work for me, but be perfect for me on a rosewood fretboard neck.. I can't explain it.. it is what it is.

So all of this to say, it may seem like a great guitar, but until you have it in your hands, you won't really know if it is the right guitar. Most of us have to buy before we try and take a chance, so make sure there is a decent return policy.

I think we can hook you up with a later model, showroom clean, for less. And I'll take that old mess off your hands before it breaks down and leave you stranded somewhere.

Thanks again. The seller also happened to have a 57 strat for sale, which I also got to try. No doubt it was a nice guitar as well, but that big V-neck is just too chunky for my small hands. So I feel lucky that I could compare the two years before buying. I really feel that I found “my guitar”, 59 is definetely my year in terms of neck size.

I will try and do a Sound clip as well. Im not very technical But I’ll figure out.
