Hey guys, I did this video for my buddy James over in the UK...some of you may know him as "srvsayce78". Anyway, I have been dragging my feet on getting the faceplate on my MJT build wired up for WAY too long and finally got around to buying a soldering iron and solder, etc. These are the D. Allen Texas Floods. I recorded this video about 10 minutes after finishing all the wiring and gave my honest first impressions (to the best of my abilities). Hopefully, this video may help some of you out there when making decisions on PUPs in the future. I do like these Texas Floods and I had a very good experience with D. Allen. Hope you enjoy the review. Aaron https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ngl2Qb-El_I&feature=youtu.be
Hey BadMonkey congrats on getting the pickups installed! It's a great feeling to do it yourself. The TexasFlood set is a traditional 42 ga wire and a Fat or overwound version of a '62 Strat set. They really aren't that hot or high in output by modern standards but it is hard to compare to an overwound 43 ga set like the OCD you mention. If you are one who like the thinner wire tone our HotRock set would be closer to the OCD set. 42 and 43 ga wire just build the coils differently and create a different tonal voicing. The TexasFloods sounded good in your video to my ears so thank you for posting it I do appreciate it cheers, David Allen
Mr. Allen, I was actually able to drop the pickups a little further down inside the guard and it helped with the volume difference. I don't mind having the difference in tone from the OC Duff set, but I do appreciate the explanation as to the differences I was hearing... I will say this...they are DEFINITELY SRV sounding PUPs...you really nailed it sir. And thanks for the great service you provided me with on this purchase. It was very much appreciated! - Aaron
Whazzup Bad Monkey! Glad to see you back hanging out here... or heck, maybe I've just not been paying attention. Anyway, those Texas Floods sound sweet (and nice playing).
Those pups sound great. I think you should do a comparison of the 2 guitars playing little wing. Not cause I care, I just like listening to little wing.
Man, that's a GREAT looking and sounding guitar! That's one of my favorite looks! (Nice playing too....) Play the finish on off of her!
hey man Sweet guitar.... I know it's a video but I think those Texas Floods sound awesome.... great job.... dbjr
