Nice! I went through a bit model building phase as a kid, mostly WW2 aircraft. Some were hung like yours, but I'd attach red thread from the guns off attacking aircraft, and cotton for trailing smoke, a few with tiny little lights installed. Unfortunately, they all ended up being destroyed by firecrakers, etc.
I used to do models when I was a teenager. Then I got into guitars, but when I was in the VA hospital for a week, they had model kits for us to put together. I built a Mini Cooper and gave it to my son when I was discharged from the hospital. I just don’t have the patience for it anymore. And the kits never came out as good as yours.
Cool...I too have a collection of autos that I need to find space to display them....most of my 1:24 and 1:25 scale models are still in their boxes (we've been in this house 8 years)...so I've been buying 1:64 scale cars to have near me on my bookcase shelves....
Yeah, they all look like they were tired of being in the basement. I wouldn't want to be there for that unveiling.
That weirdly happened in my world, too. And the evil-scientist me also discovered that coating the model with fresh Testor's glue mixed with kerosene would insure a flaming and smoking model flies through the air before the firecrackers exploded. There was an art to the timing of it all so the plane exploded before it hit the ground. Lord how did we survive childhood ??
There was also the sustained BB-Gun attack method, preferably while hanging from string. Target the pilot first of course, then the engine, then the control surfaces for complete destruction. Or the Nuclear option, just stick an M-80 on it and watch it disappear into dust, haha.
Well... someone had to go open that can... We have around 200+/- models displayed in our dining room at any given time, all scales. I rotate them around. And I've sold a couple hundred in the last few years. Diecasts and plastics. Cars only. Never been able to finish any other thing - planes, tanks, ships etc. I have a couple of other cabinets full in family room, and a 12x24 building storing models, built and unbuilt. Whereas I only have 5 guitars. Any of you on the MCM forum? I'm doing guitar hobby mostly right now, but love a good model car. I'll talk models anytime. And strats.
