Getting huge GAS for a Silver Sky. They look amazing, from what I have seen the build quality is quite honestly the best. I know my favorite artists like Clapton and John Mayer do not sport the PRS stuff.

Still think the PRS is in my short future for 2023
Go for it! If it brings you joy and is attainable.. why not? You only live once.

I’ve personally never picked one up and tried one, but I’m sure they’re good. And with decent resale, there are certainly dumber ways to spend money in this modern age.

The Silver Sky SE is on sale right now for $780 from quite a few dealers on Reverb. See if a local dealer will match that price. They are very consistant in quality but see if you can find a local dealer with 2 or 3 or more in stock. Spend time with them all listening to each both unplugged and plugged in. Pick the one that feels best to you.

The Silver Sky core model is also on sale. But it's 3X as much as the SE and not 3X better.

They are already sold out of my color.
I really wanted a white SS se. The dealer had three. One white, one green and one blue. Also a pink core model SS that was 3X as much. I played them all for an hour or so and really wanted to like the white one best and kept comparing it to the green and blue se's and the pink core model but the one I liked playing the most was green. So I bought the green one.

Buy a used one so when the novelty wears off you can sell it and not be out too much. And remember it's a novelty -- you are curious because you are seeing the marketing machine exclaim through so many voices that it's the best guitar ever.

Curious and cats and stuff sell guitars. Check out all the baritones, the fretless, and the fanned fret guitars out there. Everyone had to buy those due to Marketing driven curiosity ... and they are hard to find buyers for these days.

They are signature guitars and thus you must find buyers who are enamored with the signature artist tied to it. Some guitar players actively dislike the artist involved with these guitars (can you believe it!), just like other players actively dislike other artists. So it is much more difficult to sell them later. The only signature 'artists' that sell consistently regardless: Les Paul, Fender, PRS. Others like Clapton/Hendrix/etc while recognized have their love/hate among players. That's why suggesting to buy a used one, even if you need to wait a little longer, will give you a better outcome in the long run.

Fortunately many of PRS's signature guitar models they only put the artist's name on the truss rod cover or leave it off entirely so there is a little less baggage. A healthy used guitar market creates the funds in players pockets to buy new guitars and new premium models.

I wouldn't get the artist model Silver Sky. I'd get the SE for 2/3 less $$$. It's just as good. All anyone has to do is visit a store that has both and see for theirself.

I HAVE thought about getting another Silver Sky SE and putting Seymour Duncan Antiquity Surfer pickups in it, and then selling the SE pickups from the second SE. I love the SE pickups in my green SE and I'd keep it stock. But I also love the Antiquity Surfers in my sunburst Strat and they do sound a little different.
