Depart with my Fender strats to get a Silver Sky

ok
JM has an interview where he discusses it. With his big hands he kept hitting the bottom wing of the normal PRS headstock when playing F or first fret on e and b strings. So he and Paul realized they could tweak it to be like the curve on a Strat.
I'm also in the camp of I think the SS would look better with the traditional PRS headstock. When I look at the photos posted by @Forpie, the wings on the SS are offset, which could indeed create a problem for someone with big hands. So I look over at my old CE22 and notice there is no offset on the wings. They are symmetrical.

Im not a Silver Sky fan but PRS are excellent guitars and their import models the SE, short the exotic woods, are built just as well. PRS guitars are extremely consistent from one model to the other. I own an S2 Custom 22 Semihollow and it is the guitar I most often gig with when I play Jazz or Fusion but I have brought it to metal rehearsal too and it more than holds its own (i just prefer to play black guitars with EMG 81’s for metal)

Have to concur on the S pickups though they are not my favorite I replaced mine with Fishman Fluence Modern.
Would love to hear those Fluence pickups. Greg Koch seems to like them. I have a Fishman pickup and electronics in my Breedlove acoustic guitars and am very happy with the sound.

I’ve had my SS SE for almost a week now and I absolutely love it. It’s so comfortable and smooth to play and I really enjoy the pickups and weight of the guitar.

For sentimental reasons, I was shopping for a Strat around this price point and year of production…I was looking between the Vintera series, Nick Johnston schecter and the silver sky se. I went with the SS because of the neck, the rosewood board and the pickups. The Vintera I didn’t like the pao fero board and the vintage less output pickups, and the shecter I didn’t like the fingerboard radius (too flat for me), but would have grabbed one if I didn’t love the SS.

But I really do enjoy this guitar. Again, the neck is amazing and I really love the tones. And for the record I am not a Mayer (though I respect his playing) fan and didn’t really care at all about these when the initial core models were released.

Awesome! Glad you're liking it. Yours look like mine. Ever Green.

You bought it for the same reasons I bought mine.

And I'm not a John Mayer fan either.

But I kept my strats. (lower case s....although the white one is a MIJ Fender Squier)

I know my favorite artists like Clapton and John Mayer do not sport the PRS stuff.

Still think the PRS is in my short future for 2023
Oh what a dreadful thought!

If John Mayer and Eric Clapton started playing PRS, the trolls would take over all the gear chat sites and we would be forced to play music instead of posting comments in fantasy gear shop discussions!

I still have my early 80s Squier Bullet1 too, but it needs some work!

If you want it get it. Regardless of what some say it’s supposed to be top quality. There’s a zillion S type guitars out there, why the negativity with the PRS is so prevalent on here is beyond me. I guess just hatred for Mayer .
I have listened to a couple of recent interviews with Paul. He can come off a little full of himself, but is putting out some great product right now.

Getting huge GAS for a Silver Sky. They look amazing, from what I have seen the build quality is quite honestly the best. I know my favorite artists like Clapton and John Mayer do not sport the PRS stuff.

The silver sky was built precisely for Mayer, wasn’t it?

I really wanted a white SS se. The dealer had three. One white, one green and one blue. Also a pink core model SS that was 3X as much. I played them all for an hour or so and really wanted to like the white one best and kept comparing it to the green and blue se's and the pink core model but the one I liked playing the most was green. So I bought the green one.

I really wanted either stone blue or the green one you have but they were out of everything except moon white. It sounds so good I don’t care what color it is.

I've had a lot of great playing guitars along with my share of stinkers and some of the stinkers were very pricey. Mine play so good that I have "0" desire for any more guitars.

The new PRS DGT SE was unveiled this week, and sounds incredible for around $800. It’s not a Strat per se, but the coil tapped humbuckers sound very convincing as single coils.

When I first played a SS, I didn't know anything about it. The salesman just handed it to me and said "Try this one".
Not only was this the first silver sky I've played, but it was actually the first PRS I ever played as well. Needless to say the guitar felt like it was made for me. The compact feel, the playability was all spot on and perfect. I didn't even plug it in I just put it back on the rack after looking at the price tag. I don't really deal with guitars in this price range because I'm just a poor dude, but this guitar was different. And even after I went home I thought about it. Later on I was telling one of my guitar friends about the silver sky, so he went down to the store and got a job there, and then sold me the guitar at cost it was a really good deal.
