    This has been my favorite music genre for the last couple of years, its starting to take off. THe grand daddy is Ali Farka Toure who is no longer with us but won a grammy back in the 90's. Here are a few of my favorites.

    Mdou Moctar


    Fatoumata Diawara (not exactly desert music but Mali) I love her cool guitar parts and she sings like an angel

    I like this kind of stuff a lot, too, especially oud music. This is a great video showing how cool it can sound. Interesting because the guy is using his fingers instead of the 4" long rectangular plectrum that's commonly used.

    me too! this is what i listen to more than anything these days...
    just had the great pleasure of seeing these two gents on the same bill and me just seven, eight feet from their pedal boards.

    Did he play his dads guitar? Its real cool, I know he uses it but maybe not on tour. I would like to know what that guitar actually is.
