Did American Deluxe Series start in 1995 or 1998?

The new Corona, CA facility opened in 1998 but were they making a Strat called American Deluxe Stratocaster from 1995 to 1998? Or was that simply the Deluxe Stratocaster Plus? I'm trying to nail down the first year the American Deluxe Stratocaster appeared for an article I'm writing.

Are you pretty sure the Wiki page is definitive? I clicked through to all that Wiki pages references and can't see anyone saying "the Fender American Deluxe Series was introduced in 1995" other than that statement on the Wiki. I'm seeing lots of references to a Deluxe Stratocaster Plus from '95-'98 though. Just no references to Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster until '98 except for the quoted Wiki page. I suspect American Deluxe Stratocaster was introduced from the new Corona facility in 1998.

You are correct, wiki must be wrong - can't find a single American Deluxe online from 1995, 1996, or 1997......only the ones with Lace Sensors.....

Not to mention I don't think Fender came out with Noiseless pickups until 1998, the same year they changed from Lace Sensors to Vintage Noiseless on the Clapton Strat....

Yep - American Deluxes start in 1998. I can attest that the date on the spec sheet Mr. Dunlop posted is incorrect (Fender's mistake) as I purchased an American Deluxe Strat in May 1998 - I know I had it before my birthday, which falls in June.

I think the Strat Plus/Strat Plus Deluxe/Strat Ultra were discontinued in March 1998, so it could be that some American Deluxes made it out before they got an official introduction at the 1998 Summer NAMM show - which is why I wound up with one in May.

They were not listed in the January 1998 price list but appeared in the July 15 1998 amended list as a new model. This could be where Fender gets the July date.

That sounds right - Fender probably stopped taking orders for the Lace Sensor models early in the year but was still doing final production through May/June to fulfill those final orders, likely alongside the first of the American Deluxes.

Yes - I seem to recall some ads showing up in May/June Guitar Player and Guitar World for the American Deluxes, and back then those issues would have been on the stands or sent out for subscriptions in late March/early April for May issues (seemed like they showed up 5-6 weeks ahead of the publication month.

But since Fender only did up the nice printed price lists twice per year the January 1998 had the Lace Sensor models - and also the first version of the AVRIs - and the July 1998 had the American Deluxes and the revised AVRIs instead.

Exactly the details I was looking for. Thank you Mr. Dunlop

Wow you guys have been a huge help with your details from these posts. Thank you all so much! On my website I've been trying to document the progression of Fender's top-of-the-line factory production model working backwards from this year's American Ultra Stratocaster. Details are getting hard to find as I work my way back.

Does anyone know of a scanned copy of the spec sheet from '98 or possibly a brochure from that year? I know from past experience that someone is going to hit me with the old "that doesn't look right, where's your proof?" comment.
